Oh, Mycroft. I must admit, I do kind of like it when he's an unmitigated bastard to Sherlock, because god knows Sherlock gives him enough crap. Also, I'm sure I've said it before, but I do really like the way you capture the attitudes and mores of the time period.

Gorgeous! Mycroft really is a right bastard, isn't he? Although Sherlock is no better. I felt bad for Victor. And was that bit about Sherlock looking back and forth between Victor, the picture of health and success, and John, broken and old, meant to suggest that Sherlock was ashamed of John, or thinks that he (Sherlock) doesn't deserve anything "better" than John? That part made me sad. Even though it's clear that he loves John very deeply.

I'm very glad they got to have the happy morning before they left. And at least the end is hopeful. For all that went before he's got John now and that's what really matters.

I liked Sherlock looking from Victor to John because though Victor is healthy and seemingly untroubled, it's John he loves so much that none of the signs of weariness and hurt are drawbacks for him.
