Yes, it's been a while since I've updated and therefore this entry will likely be enormous. So. Let us begin.
This weekend in Portland was glorious. Absolutely spiffing. Wonderfully corking. Yeah. :) The drive up wasn't bad, and Cassie kept me company, though I realized she can talk. A. Lot. Wow. Seems like she's really come out of her shell since fire camp. No longer the shy, bitter little prude she once was, which in many ways is an improvement, though she's still very opinionated, and now she has opinions on rather more substantial issues. Like sex. Heh. Talking sex with Cassie Coxen is not something I ever envisioned doing, and was therefore quite enlightening. In its own special way.
Il Divo. I can't begin to describe how amazing it was seeing them live. They are so incredibly beautiful and their voices are amazing and I'm completely in love with Urs now. He is HOT.
See? How can you go wrong with someone that gorgeous? The Avalon Hotel and Spa, where we stayed the first night, was super nice. We stayed for half-price and got a free dinner at their restaurant because our friend Shermayne has a daughter who works there and got us all the fancy stuff. It was quite nice and if anyone gets a chance to stay there they should take it, as it's well worth the money. Anyway. Funny story from the concert. :) We got to the Rose Garden and had bought all our souveniers and such, and were standing in line to get drinks before the concert. These two very obviously gay men were standing in front of us, and I guess were listening to mine and Mum's conversation. I think I asked Mum if she'd get me a mixed drink instead of a glass of wine, and she said something to the effect of "Your indulgent parent will get whatever your spoiled rotten heart desires." Then one of the men turned around and started teasing me about being spoiled rotten. And I'm not sure how the conversation got there, but these men assumed Mum and I were lesbians. WTF? I mean, I've always heard we look a lot alike, so it'd be hard to mistake the family connection. But they were amused with us and made all sorts of dirty jokes about giving birth and bought us our drinks. As the drinks were coming, one of the men said, "Can you believe you're seeing Il Divo! To me it's just like going to Disneyland. Except there I can't ride the rides, but I'd ride these guys all night long!" LMAO! It was great. I'd never seen such a concentration of gay men and middle-aged housewives in my life.
The next morning Mum and I said goodbye to our crazy concert friends and moved our spoiled butts over to the Fifth Avenue Suites. Dad was meeting us later that day, so we went out for some retail therapy. Pioneer Place Mall is great for that sort of thing. Found all sorts of stuff we wanted, bought some of it, remembered the rest for when Dad got to Portland with the money. :) We went to lunch at Macaroni's Grill, where Mum had her very first cosmopolitan...then another... :) They had the most amazing Shrimp Portofino (which I'm writing only so I can remember it for when I go back), and our waiter, named Crash and endearingly flamboyantly gay, gave us all sorts of brilliant advice on love, life, and the universe. He was a kick in the pants, and was surprised to learn that Mum was actually my mum. Is there something about us that says otherwise? I'm kind of concerned... Anyway...Dad showed up later, spoiled us some more, and took us out to dinner. At dinner we got into a huge discussion about the subjugation of women, the role of America in the Middle East, the nature of conflict in general, religion, more religion, and lots of other things. It was pretty intense. But good. I love being able to argue with my parents and actually be taken seriously. It makes me feel like I'm actually putting my education to use! The Boston Celtics were staying at the hotel that night. I met a couple of them in the elevator when I went out to get ice. They seemed like nice enough people, and we talked about how dumb it was not to have ice on the fifth floor. Hugely tall. Made me feel like a midget. :)
Saturday, more shopping, I got a massage and steam at the Aveda Spa attached to the hotel, and then, after Dad was done with his meeting, we went out to the Home and Garden Show. The one with the wine tasting. :) After about an hour of tasting wines (and a bit of tipsiness) we actually got to looking around the show. Mum wanted to look at greenhouses and Dad was looking for retaining walls. Sounds boring, but it was actually pretty neat. Some of the garden displays were really cool. And the wine was tasty. We went to a place called Veritable Quandry for dinner, which was excellent. Definitely going back there when I'm in Portland with someone who can afford it. That night in the elevator on the way to get ice the super cute bellboy complimented me on my bathrobe...it was an XXL giraffe print robe that they provided through the hotel. :)
Then home on Sunday. The drive home was great, sunny from Roseburg to Medford and I had the sunroof open. Spring is coming, I can feel it! Makes me happy.
Lately I've been hanging out with Kristen a lot. We've been watching movies, chilling. Now that the Olympics are over, we don't have to flip between the Olympics and the film, which is nice. Sunday we watched Robin Hood: Men in Tights. Love that film! Last night we watched a couple of old John Cusack (sp?) films called Better Off Dead (which is brilliantly funny and weird) and ...Say Anything (which isn't so funny, but still good). We ate beer-boiled bratwursts, too. Mmm...good. :)
So what else is going on in my life? Good question, glad you asked. :P I registered for classes this afternoon. I could have registered at 8 a.m., but I forgot and now I'm waitlisted for Advanced Poetry Writing. Which is OK as it's not a required class and I can probably get in as the 514 which meets with the 414 class isn't full. Therefore there's got to be room. So life is good in that department.
Been writing a bunch. Lots of new poetry. I need to start finding supplies with which to make a chapbook for my final project in Poetry Writing. I could just print out a bunch of pages of poetry, but I like the idea of making a chapbook.
New LOST tonight! Which is brilliant.
Can you tell I'm just looking for things to add? As that is the case, I think I shall end this here. Yay for updating!
