There just isn't anything decent in my immediate area for grocery shopping. Ukrops is great, but kind of pricey and a bit out of my way. Even the one in the 'Burg, where I spend a lot of time, is not as convenient as it was when I lived up there. Food Lion sucks. Period. Giant is okay, but I don't have one near my house. I avoid Super WalMart, because I hate the way it's set up, and the fact that there are never enough registers open. So I normally wind up at Big Target, where at least I can usually find what I need.

We're getting a Wegman's in the 'Burg later this year, and I've heard those are fantastic, and have good prices. So I'll give that a shot when it opens.

If I drive from my house north on route 1 to get to Target, I drive by - no lie - TWO Food Lions. One is only 4 miles from my house.

Target is 20 miles away and totally worth it.

You had to go and mention the Cullen skink soup! Now I must make me some and make a similar trek to Trader Joe's. You know what I'd love to make, is that bread they make up in the highlands around Grantown on Spey that they serve with soup. It is sort've spongy and just perfect for sopping. But I have no idea what they call it.

Ya know, I didn't think to check Joe's for the smoked haddock, although the store was pretty crowded and at that point, I was ready to just pay for my stuff and get the heck out.

I visited my first Whole Foods out in Dever and I was so overwhelmed. So many earthy crunchy things! For SO MUCH money! If only they could be cheaper!

Also, that soup sounds awesome! :D

Supposedly, Wegman's will have similar items at much lower prices. We'll see - they're supposed to open this coming June.
