And now, here is chapter two....
Chapter Two:
Dumbledore closed his mouth, then opened it again as if to say something, thought better of it and closed it again. Pomfery looked at Dumbledore, then to Harry.
“I have no idea where to even start. I’ve never seen anything like this.”
“Start running scans for any spells, charms, curses, hexes, potions or poisons that could do this or be a possible side effect. We’ll go from there. I’ll make arrangements to excuse you from classes at least for today. We’ll figure out what to do once we can get more information about your condition. I’m also going to ask Professor Snape to join us to see what he can come up with. Don’t worry, Harry, we’ll get to the bottom of this and you back to normal.”
Harry groaned at bearing the Potion Master’s name and Dumbledore left.
Madam Pomfery had Harry change into a gown and get up on the bed. She had him lay down and once he was comfortable, she began going through everything she could think of, running her wand up and down his body, saying a new incantation with each pass. Harry was beginning to wonder if this alone was going to take all day. At last, Madam Pomfery gave Harry a sad smile and shook her head.
There was a knock at the door and when Madam Pomfery opened it, Professor Snape stepped inside. He looked at Harry on the bed and arched an eyebrow at him.
“Dumbledore told me what to expect, though to actually see it….. What have you gone off and done this time, Potter? Honestly….,” he shook his head, “I trust that you’ve done the necessary scans to try to find the answer to Potter’s newest problem?” he asked, turning to Pomfery.
She nodded her head. “Nothing came back positive.”
“It may be Dark….”
“Can you test for anything? I don’t really want to stay like this,” Harry stated, looking at Snape in the eye.
“I can run the tests for what I know. This is more then likely going to take some time to find the cause.”
“Well, run the scans for what you can. We’ll go from there,” Pomfery told him.
Professor Snape ran his tests, scanning for anything he thought would have caused Harry’s problem or have had it as a side effect. When he had finished, they still had nothing to go on.
“What am I going to do? I can’t go to classes like this, but I can’t miss them the whole time I’m like this either,” Harry said, jumping off the bed and running a hand over his slight frame. He began to pace, muttering to himself. A short time later, Dumbledore entered the room.
“So, what have you been able to find out?” he asked, looking form Pomfery, to Snape and then to Harry. Harry noticed that Dumbledore still had that twinkle in his eye, even if it was dim. For some reason, it annoyed Harry, he resumed his pacing.
“We haven’t been able to find out anything. We’ve run scans for every spell, curse, charm, hex, potion and poison, both light and dark that we could think of that could cause this or where it might even be a side effect. We’ve come up empty handed. It’s going to take time and research,” Snape informed the Headmaster, speaking up before Pomfery could.
“Harry raised a good point about classes, though. He can’t go like this and he certainly can’t afford to miss the amount of time that this is obviously going to take to fix. We’re going to have to figure something out,” Pomfery put in.
“Yes, yes. I figured as much. I do have an idea about that, if the parties involved are agreeable,” Dumbledore replied with a pointed look at Harry and Snape over the top of his glasses. “Since it would seem that Professor Snape would have more time on his hands to do the necessary research then Madam Pomfery, I think it would be best for Harry to stay with you, Professor. I’ll get someone to cover your classes and that way the two of you can devote most of your time to finding out what is going on. What do you think? Severus? Harry?”
“I think you’re trying to get me killed,” Harry muttered softly so no one could hear. Snape looked at him with one arched eyebrow. Harry just rolled his eyes before he spoke again, but louder this time, “Wouldn’t it raise suspicions with the both of us missing? I’m sure that there are those that are keeping tabs on Professor Snape for certain other people. And I’m also sure that we all know what I’m talking about.”
“He does raise a point, Albus. There are those in my House that watch me. I may have an idea of how we could make this work. We could just say that Harry has to leave due to something, we can decide what later, and then we have the new Harry here be a transfer student. Have some time pass between the two events. We could maybe have a private talk with the Hat before we sort him…..,” Snape’s voice trailed off.
Dumbledore looked to be in thought about this new idea. At long last, he nodded his head and said, “I think that would work out well for both of you. The two of you could arrange for extra study time or something to do the necessary research. I do expect you to help, Harry.” Dumbledore looked over the top of his glasses at Harry as he said the last part.
Harry nodded his head slightly at the Headmaster and resumed his pacing once again.
“Um, Harry, dear, do you have anything that would be…..um……more…..well, appropriate to wear?” Pomfery asked, blushing a little.
Dumbledore, Snape and Harry turned to look at her with blank looks on their faces.
“What do you mean ‘appropriate to wear’?” Harry asked.
“Well, dear, you can’t go to your classes like that, in your clothes.”
