Book Review: The Great God Pan

I had heard about this story-novella-thingy before, but decided to read it when Stephen King mentioned it in an interview he did with Borders. It's pretty good. A little confusing because it's not immediately clear how everything fits together. A scientist thinks he's found the way to open up the human consciousness to the supernatural and he decides to test it by cutting into the brain of a 17 year old girl in his care. A story of a another young girl who wanders off into the woods each day and whose companion on these trips is so monstrous that a small boy is permanently mentally damaged by looking upon it. A man is discovered dead of fright in a flat in the city.

The stories don't come together until the very end, but it all made sense in the end. Definitely creepy. And it's easy to see why this (which was written in 1894) inspired so many horror writers like Lovecraft and King himself. Worth taking a peek at if you like horror stories.
