Book Review: The Poet

FANTASTIC. I had a hankering for a good detective story and this did the trick. I was captured by the story right away. A Denver detective is found dead in his car from an apparent suicide. His twin brother, a reporter, decides to write a story about police suicides (as a means of understanding his brother's suicide) and uncovers a serial killer who is dubbed The Poet because of the Edgar Allan Poe quotes that are left at the scenes of the crimes. I won't give away too much because it was a thrilling book. What I really enjoyed is that there were several misdirections so it wasn't that easy to figure out who the killer was, but once revealed it made sense. I would love love love to say more, but it will give away a lot. Simply said, this was a great murder mystery with some disturbing elements (i.e. child molestation and corpse mutilation were running themes). My daughter will attest to me nearly jumping up and down in excitement when I realized that one solution had been misdirection and that there was still more to be revealed.

I am definitely going to need to read more of his books. :-) And this book was another suggestion of Stephen King.
