^^^Chapter 1

“What’s going on with him?” asked Hardison, as he, Nate and Sophie were sitting together. Parker was still in the hospital. She had been unconscious for 3 days now, and Eliot had barely left her side.

“What do you mean?” Sophie responded.

“Okay, have you not noticed that Eliot hasn’t left the hospital since Parker was shot???” Hardison replied, dramatically.

“He cares about her.” said Nate, in a matter-of-fact tone.

“That’s my point.” said the exasperated hacker, “Since when? He never gave a-”

Sophie cut him off, “That’s not true. Maybe he hasn’t always been in love with her, but-”

It was Hardison’s turn to interrupt, “In LOVE with her?? Have you all gone insane??”

“Uh, I don’t think it’s particularly insane, Hardison,” said Nate, “maybe you just couldn’t see it because you liked Parker yourself…”

“That’s exactly it.” said Sophie.

Hardison put his face in his hands, “Okay. Okay. If Nate can catch on to this it must be true.”

“What do you mean by that??” asked Nate.

“Well, man, honestly, you ain’t even figured out that you and Sophie got…something…going on and there is nothing more obvious than that.”

Nate was embarrassed to the point of speechlessness, and so was Sophie. They just looked at Hardison, stunned, and he couldn’t help but smirk to himself as he walked away.

Eliot was falling asleep beside Parker’s bed. He hadn’t slept in the last 3 days, on the off chance that she work up. He wanted to be there. She hadn’t even opened her eyes in all this time, and he wanted to see those baby blues again. His admiration for her eyes was not a new development. Even when he couldn’t stand Parker he thought she was beautiful. Especially her eyes. Eliot knew that the others would gladly take his place, but he wanted to stay here. And what if she didn’t make it? That was too horrible to think about. He had been mean to her over the time he had known her. He wanted to make up for it. Was the little thief insane? Yes. But she was his insane thief and he liked her that way. Now, he could lose her without her knowing he cared. And, besides all of that, he couldn’t stand the idea of Hardison being with her when she woke up. He admitted it. He was jealous. Hardison had always shown that he cared about her. What if she cared about Hardison? What if Eliot was too late? He tried not to think about it. He finally gave in, and went to sleep, even in those horrible hospital chairs.

When Parker opened her eyes Eliot was curled up like a little cat in the chair by her bed. She giggled. He was so adorable. Then she looked around, and she began to remember what had happened. She had been shot, and as she was lying on the ground, before she passed out, she saw Eliot ferociously attacking the cops. Then she blacked out. Eliot looked terrible now that she thought of it. He was a mess. She felt so bad for him she almost didn’t want to wake him…but she needed him at the same time. She didn’t know why, but she had always felt safer when Eliot was there, even though he didn’t like her. She poked his arm. He jumped, and woke up immediately. She pulled her hand back, and gave a guilty look. But his reaction shocked her.

“Hey, you’re awake!” he said, “How are you feeling, darlin?” He reached out and felt her forehead. She jumped at the contact. Eliot sobered a little.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing…” she said, “How long have I been…out?”

“3 days.” he said, and he winced as if it hurt him to remember.

“Have you been here?”

“The whole time.”

“You look like it.” she said, honestly. He gave her one of his looks.

“Eliot?” Parker said, shyly.

“What, darlin’?”

“Why?”

“What do you mean?”

“Why did you stay?”

“In case you woke up. I wanted to be here.”

“Why?”

“Darlin’…do you want me to leave?”

“No!” she shouted, “No, don’t leave me, Eliot, please.”

“I won’t then, babe.” he winced, annoyed with himself for letting that word slip.

She giggled.

“What’s so funny?” he said with a smile.

“You don’t like me.”

“Where did you get that idea from anything I just said?”

“I didn’t…but you always say things like-”

“Well, you need to forget anything like that, Parker. I like you just how you are.”

“But you always ‘there’s something wrong with you.’ Why would you say that if-”

He laughed at the way she mimicked him when she said “There’s something wrong with you.”

“Well, Parker, there is something wrong with you. But I happen to like you that way.”

Her face lit up. “Are we friends?”

“Yes, if you’ll have me.”

“I like you, Eliot.”

“I like you, too, Parker.” That was when he took a liberty he didn’t know how she would react to. He kissed her forehead.

“I’m going to go call the others, okay?”

“Okay. Come back.”

“Always.” he said. He meant that with his whole soul.

He turned and smiled at her as he left, to reassure her, and to get another glimpse of those beautiful blue eyes. She smiled back.
