What sources do you have experience in? (The Hobbit, LotR, the Silm, etc.) No experience as such as I haven't written in LOTR universe (except for role-play stuff in LOTR Online MMO & earlier table-top RPG) but have read all and am generally known as a lore buff :D
Are there time periods or races that you have more knowledge of? Probably better with late Third to early fourth Age, but can tackle anything. Also have good knowledge of elves as that is what I have generally played in role-play so done a lot of reading about them. Picked up stuff about all races though in helping others out with backgrounds and the like.
Briefly describe your strong points as a beta:I am pretty experienced in doing general English correction - admittedly in engineering & technical documents (university lecturer in electronic engineering by day) but they still need to flow properly and make sense. Got a lot of experience in dealing with non-native English speakers writing English and can be very picky about English that doesn't ( ... )

What sources do you have experience in? (The Hobbit, LotR, the Silm, etc.) LotR (mainly bookverse, but also movieverse); the Hobbit.
Are there time periods or races that you have more knowledge of? I focus mainly on hobbits, but I'd be happy to broaden my horizons! Time period - I'd be of most use with a story set in the same period as the book/s.
Briefly describe your strong points as a beta: Brit-picking; checking spelling, grammar, punctuation etc; giving guidance on canon compliance, if the author feels that's important; providing honest feedback on matters of style; providing moral support! I'd be interested in working with an author who hasn't attempted a long fic before - I was recently in that position (though not in this fandom) and I know how daunting it can be. :))

Hi dear! I'm so happy Dreamflower told me that you're going to be my beta for the bigbang. Eeee. But just fyi, I'm an Indonesian and my writing can sometimes be winding and awkward and just not right for the English standard. I hope you'll be patient with me but also please be harsh in editing. My betas never doubt to tell me in what areas I'm weak or wrong and also if something makes sense or not. Also I've not been writing LotR for awhile, esp. not long stuff since I've been busy with different fandoms. So perhaps canon will be a bit difficult for me.

Also please be patient as I haven't started the fic at all. :)

Thank you in advance!

Shinta

Aha, I see the comments are open here now!

Did you get the message I sent you the other day? Just so I know we've made contact.

I hope the fic is going well. :))

What sources do you have experience in? (The Hobbit, LotR, the Silm, etc.) All three, mostly TH and LotR
Are there time periods or races that you have more knowledge of? Pretty versatile, but mostly ME Third Age.
Briefly describe your strong points as a beta: Am well versed in LotR particularly, and have an excellent appreciation for language usage and punctuation.

Hey, Larner, here I am! As I understand it, we've been paired together for the Big Bang! :)

I feel so honored. I couldn't imagine a more delightful and intelligent beta with a better knowledge base. . .just let me know how you'd like to do this. I'm starting to write but don't have it done yet, but I like to run early these days rather than skidding into home plate at the last minute, which I'm betting might be your preference too? :)

Just feel free to drop me a reply or a line. You and I are friended, of course, so LJ replies are fine, or e me at febobe at yahoo dot com if you like.

Oh, thank you for being a helpful beta for this event! We'll have a grand time, I'm sure! :)

*hugs joyfully*

The Hobbit and LOTR, definitely checkski
I have written and read Silmfic and UT-based fic, though never beta'd it.

Are there time periods or races that you have more knowledge of?: I have developed something of an obsession for Second Age Numenor. Beyond that I most often write Gondor and Rohan, so naturally have thought and researched the most for that time period. But I have a good working knowledge of both LOTR and TH and am willing to try my hand at other periods as well.

Briefly describe your strong points as a beta:I think my greatest strengths are my thoroughness and my flexibility. I teach a writing-intensive college course, and so I see some rather horrid writing (and have experience working on how to fix it without bruising egos). I prefer to work over several drafts but am happy to give as much or as little feedback as the author provides ( ... )

Hello! Looks like we've been paired up. What would be the best way for us to stay in contact? How would you like me to send you the rough drafts of my chapters? When are you most often available?
