Two questions, really.

#1. Could the poem be something from a Dr. Suess book? ;o)

#2. Could the poem be an original piece, like a line from one of my own poems?

#1. Honestly, I don't see why not. Haha.

#2. I'd prefer it not be, if only so you're left having to work with the lines of others, if you know what I mean ;)

#1. Good stuff. This gives me all sorts of wacky ideas.

#2. Gotcha. Hadn't really planned on going this route, but thought I'd check anyway.

Thanks!

I know about a bazillion art songs, so I guess my questions would be

a)can it be from an art song if the song was written from a poem?

b)does it have to be in English?

a) Sure
b) Nope

I'm sure this question has been asked a few times in previous challenges, but just so I know...

... is it frowned upon if both members of a pairing are not from LOTR? Like say, Orlando and someone not in the cast, for example?

As long as ONE of the characters is from LOTR you're alright ;)

Hmmmm.

Line of poetry? I guess it can't be a single line from a song eh?

Not from a song, has to be poetry. Written. ;)
