I would keep the cooking and decorating books in case Sophie develops a thing for them in five years or so. All things crafty = super fun mother/daughter times.
do you have a lot of shelf space? Sol refuses to part with any book unless I basically stage a court battle, so we took all of the books that we reference a lot, books that we are planning on looking at a lot - Put them on the bottom shelf. Then the rest of the books - since it doesn't matter if we can't find them easily, we organized by COLOR. Looks cool and organized, Sol keeps his books, I have a conversation piece. Everyone wins. I hate getting rid of books!
Wow, I never thought about color coordinating my books. Like Sol as an English Major I find it so difficult to part with any of my books. But last night I did. I separated them into crafts, decorating, fiction, non-fiction, self-help and spirituality. When Tomas comes back from NYC and returns with the camara I'll post and show you what I did.

Then there are my decorating books. I bought them because of certain ideas, but have I referenced them...ever? Not really.
What about the cookbooks I never use?
I'm not using them, so really, why is it so hard to part with them?
