Smartphones?

Firstly, thanks to each and every one of you who commented on the last entry. I was going to thank everyone personally, reply to comments, etc... but I find the wound's too raw. (Still kind of in the denial stage, I guess) However I did read all your comments as they came in and just knowing people cared enough to comment helped. Maybe should have ( Read more... )

I used a friend's smart phone once. It was easy to use and you could totally update LJ. But the screen is so tiny! But the big pro is mobile internets. Gosh, some people even watch movies on it! Other people can share the ins and outs of which data plan to choose. How many minutes are enough? How much would it add to your bill a month?

If it makes you feel better, I think you totally deserve a new phone if that's what you want!

Yeah I need to treat myself to something, that's for sure.

Thanks! I'll need to go shopping and hear some sales pitches, I guess. Still trying to figure who I know will be good to take with.

I don't know much, having just got one myself.

As far as I know, only the iPhone will hijack your stuff with iTunes and everything else with an i in front of it. You also have to use the authorised Apple cable instead of a regular USB. Some people rave about iPad and iPhone etc, but I really dislike the thought of it being so exclusive.

Apparently the Nokia C7, which I have isn't ideal either, but for me it's fine so far, I not only got a new phone - I also got a new camera and an MP3 player!

Most people seem to like anything that runs the Android OS (the Nokia runs Symbian).

My plan lets me read/post on Twitter, Facebook and Myspace (heh, who still uses Myspace?) for free, I don't have a lot of traffic allowance for other sites though, so I generally steer clear. LJ does have something in place to allow for posting from phones, but I'd look that up on LJ help - just remember, it all uses bandwidth so make sure you get an appropriate plan for your needs.

Wow, I know more about that than I thought I did!

I have and love the HTC desire - it runs off the Android operating system that is Google's offering to the world of smartphones. Like you - I do not have a lot of love for iTunes taking over everything and making one its bitch. All smartphones have apps and the Android systems offers more free ones at the moment than iTunes.

It allows me to update stalkerbook, email and do all the necessary online stuff on the run.

As gemfyre rightly points out, the key to the smartphone regardless of whether you choose Apple or Android is your data plan. My initial advice is to get more than you think you will need - so that in the pretty, shiny download everything phase you don't end up with a honking great bill.

The HTC to operate is rather intuitive - had a play with the Nokia N8 and didn't enjoy the experience at all.

In terms of the bells and whistles side of things - it ticks the boxes with a decent camera, Internets browser and not being too clunky to have in your hand.

I'll say I'm definitely in the pro-iPhone camp, because I adore mine. I love how clean, simple, and straightforward things are on it. I also used iTunes long before I got an iPhone, so I guess I'm biased towards the software as well, but I never found it all that annoying to have at all. It's pretty simple and it makes it really easy to sync music to my phone, as well as update the phone's software and everything else. Also, I'm really impressed by the camera and the screen is amazing, and browsing the internet is really easy ( ... )

Thanks! :) Nice to have a positive perspective on the iphone - probably won't end up with one but I wanted a balanced view. :D

Haha yeah, I just always feel like I need to make sure people know that there are great things about it, because sometimes it gets a little bit of a bad reputation, and it really is an incredible phone. Enjoy your search! I love new phone shopping!

I had one as a work phone for a while - by the end of my two stints with one, I wanted to smash the silly thing.
