Second Bloom

I have been looking in to the different jobs, but I am not certain yet what it is that I would be good at. I know that lots of different people here do different things, like work with the Guard or the Watch or as scavengers or medics or things like that. What does everyone reading this do, and do you like it?

I have not yet found a position to claim as my own, but I believe I may stake a claim in agriculture. Perhaps working with animals. I have found that most of them are not disturbed by my scent or appearance. Perhaps not; I have not met the ones who slaughter the livestock and prepare their carcasses for sale, but I have felt their presence. I am uncomfortable with it. But, perhaps I could simply take a position that has little to do with them.

Partners...

[Sylvar is sad and doesn't know why. This happens a lot.]

I do not wish to tell you how to feel. I suppose I am happy for these strangers, for it seems like few have a deep and meaningful connection here. Perhaps I envy this closeness.

I know that Dumbledore works with growing vegetables. It is not the same thing but maybe you could talk to him about working in farming? It sounds like something that could be fun!

Why would they be disturbed by the way you smell and look?

I guess it is a good thing. Dad says that Bell is important to him and that he cares about him. But Bell is also a pervert and he is making Dad into one too and I am not sure how I feel about that.

I thank you, but I have chosen to work with the domestic animals. I will simply avoid the ones who butcher them; perhaps I can attend to the creatures who provide milk.

I am not human. Some animals become nervous in my presence.

You will do what you feel is right. I cannot advise otherwise; only that you should not act hastily in whatever you choose.

Oh, okay. That sounds like a good plan then!

Oh. If you are not human, what are you?

Thank you. I think that is good advice. I seem to always do things hastily so I will try to remember to not do that this time.

Oh! I am sorry, I did not introduce myself before now. I am Lotus. What is your name?

I'm one of the Scavengers. I'm sure your dad's gone over the finer points of that with you, so I won't bore you. I like it well enough. You get to move around a good bit and there's a fair amount of freedom.

That sounds like something that would fit me well then. I do not think I would be very good at a job that meant I needed to stay still. I am not very good at that.

Luckily, there doesn't seem to be any shortage of jobs that keep you moving around here, so there should be a decent amount to pick from.

I'm a Scavenger, but I don't spend all that much time in the Yard anymore. I've started working in the stables, with the griffins. Helping to train them and other new riders.

They're both fine, I suppose. There are completely different hazards for each one, but I've kept myself from being mauled so far. And working with griffins means that I don't have to pay as much to fly.

Griffins? What are those? And what do you train them for? Flying? [The words are angular, written quickly with obvious excitement.]

Griffins are large - two meters or six feet tall at the shoulder - semidomesticated mammavians. They're a little raptorial, a little feline, and a lot of work, but I think it's worth it to get some flight time.

Oh, yes. Most people here don't look up that often, but try it a few times in the City Without Walls. If you see something that looks like a bird with an odd tail, chances are that it's a griffin with a rider.

Semidomesticated mammavians? I am not certain what that means, but they sound very interesting. Flying sounds like fun, too! Maybe I could come see the griffins sometime?

You must be Lotus then. I have met your father on occasion, and if you are anything like him, then perhaps my job is not suited for you, that is unless you are willing to do so.

I work at the Bakery. We sell an assortment of pies and confectionaries. Cakes and meat buns. Even fresh bread. Yes, I rather enjoy my job, though I am a butler in nature, by trade, but not here in Edensphere.

Partners. Oh, how.. interesting.

Everyone has said that I am a lot like Dad. I think that is a good thing because he is a wonderful person!

Pies and cakes and fresh bread? That sounds like fun! I do not know if I am very good at cooking though...

What is a butler? And why are you not one here?

Yes. They told me when I found Bell hugging Dad. I am still not sure if I like that. I mean, Bell is a pervert. And Dad deserves better than a pervert. I am certain that whoever she is, my mother is not a pervert. Or a man.

Quite the gentleman, and quite the man, I must agree in that statement or truth, whichever you see it as.

It certainly is to me. To be able to mold dough into whatever I wish it to be. I find that if you are good with your hands, that it's not that hard to cook, even if it's merely manning the ovens.

A butler is like a servant, expect to my understanding they are paid, instead of being indebted with payment as for something already used.

[Oh my, he hadn't expected that for such a gentleman] I see. Youth and Bell. A pervert? How horrible. I've never met him, so I can't comment on that.

Oh. That might be something that I would be able to do, then! I am pretty good with my hands. At least, I think I am. Is it something that I could maybe try out for a day and see how it goes?

Oh. That sounds like an interesting job as well. What kinds of things did you do as a butler, or do you remember?

Yes. He is a pervert and lazy and always keeps his face covered and he reads a lot and invites people over to watch porn and calls Dad his plush and Dad says that there are good things about him too and that he does not mind all of that but I am not so certain.
