HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

TITLE: Cupid's Chokehold
CHAPTER: OS
PAIRING: Sakurai x Aiba
RATING: PG13
SUMMARY: They floated by the street light as if the word gravity had no meaning to them. Half a dozen small naked children with fluffy white wings and short curly hair, mostly blonde and as smooth all over as a Barbie doll.

I was walking along the high street on my lunch break wishing that I had more than an hour for the break. One hour is hardly enough time to eat a half-decent lunch. I was just rounding the corner when I saw them.

They floated by the street light as if the word gravity had no meaning to them. Half a dozen small naked children with fluffy white wings and short curly hair, mostly blonde and as smooth all over as a Barbie doll.

Cupids. Shit. That was all I needed. I slowly backed away, trying to be as silent as a cat as I looked around for a door to get off of the street before they saw me.

But it was too late; they saw me. One of the chubby pink things pulled out it’s bow and began to sift through it’s quiver for an arrow.

I didn’t wait to see what colour the thing chose, I just spun on my heel and ran as fast as I could. I turned yet another corner and found that all the buildings were as smooth as the cupids, just as a choir began to sing in my head. I had heard that they could cloud people’s minds, but had never seen it in action.

I panicked, rushing down the alleyways between the smooth buildings, looking for some sort of escape. When I chanced a look behind me, the creatures were still following like lazy butterflies as they continued sifting through their quivers.

“Leave me alone, you fat children!” I yelled, flattening myself against the wall.

The Cherub in the middle decided on an arrow and pulled it out of the quiver, slowly.

“In here!” A man’s voice yelled. I turned to the sound, and could suddenly see a door open at the opening of the alley, “Run for it!”

I took a deep breath and threw myself past the Cherubs, running as fast as my long legs would let me. Just as I reached the door, I tripped over something and landed flat on my face. Something flew past me and thudded into the wall beside me; a white arrow.

“White? True love?! Shit!” I exclaimed, scrabbling to get to my feet.

“I got you,” The man’s voice said again, and suddenly, I was dragged into the open door by my arm, with it slamming shut behind me.

“Jesus Christ,” I gasped, my heart thumping painfully fast in my chest, “Thank you so much!”

“It’s alright,” The man replied, helping me to my feet, “I’ve been chased by them lately, too,”

When I was finally on my feet, I managed to take a good look at my rescuer. He wasn’t much taller than me, with dark chocolate coloured hair falling delicately onto his handsome face. His eyes matched the colour of his hair, and his smile was bright and inviting. Okay, so I thought he was attractive, so what?

“I’m Sakurai Sho,” The man said, offering me his hand, “Call me Sho,”

“Aiba Masaki,” I replied, shaking his hand firmly, “Masaki,”

His smile was beautiful, but he pulled away from me far too soon to peak out the window.

“They are still out there,” He said, “It might be best you stay here for a little while to wait it out. They give up pretty easily,”

I nodded, “Thanks,”

“That is quite a Lust of Cupids you got after you,” He said, leading me through a corridor and into a warm, inviting sitting area, “How many of them were there? Six? They must want you bad,”

I nodded. He was obviously right. Usually, Cupids travelled in pairs because they didn’t seem to like to be alone much. But a Lust of six Cupid’s was like a damn posse. Had I offended someone? What did I do to deserve the white arrow?! Had my mother slipped one of the little winged horrors some candy? Cupid’s didn’t need money, but they loved sweeties and cakes. It would happen every now and then. Corrupt Cupids with a sweet tooth.

“How old are you?”

I took a seat when he offered and answered him, “Twenty nine, almost thirty,”

“Ah, that explains it,” Sho said, “Once you get to thirty, Cupids take it as a personal insult if you haven’t found love,”

“You found love?” I asked with a small blush.

“No,” He smiled, “I’ve had a Lust of Cupids after me for a year or so, now,”

“How did you escape?” I asked, genuinely interested. I needed to keep out of the way of this particular lust; there were just so many of them!

Sho shrugged, “I’m lucky, I guess. Plus, I’ve never really had anyone around me when they started aiming. Now, can I get you a cup of tea? Cake?”

Two hours later and Sho glanced at the clock with a smile, “I hate to say it, but it’s probably alright for you to chance it,”

I look up at the clock, “Shit! I’ve been here for two hours! I’m so late!” I jumped to my feet and pulled on my suit jacket and grabbed my briefcase while racing to the door.

He grinned at me, “Well, if you want to bunk off of work again, I can make myself available,”

I blushed and shook his outstretched hand, “Thanks, Sho, I’d like that,”

Pah! Who needs Cupids?

I turned just before I rounded the corner to wave goodbye to Sho. He smiled and waved back, and then his face changed.

“Behind you!” He yelled, running towards me.

I spun just in time to see the Cupids flying at me. I flung myself onto the floor as a white arrow buried itself onto the floor by my head.

Sho was still running at me, shouting.

A white arrow took him through the chest. He staggered backwards, eyes wide in shock and pain, before he fell and landed hard.

“Sho!” I screamed.

I head a whir of wings above me and turned slowly. I was looking up into a pair of sky-blue eyes. A small, pink mouth smiled at me, the little gold bow pulled back with a white arrow pointed at me.

A movement to my left caught my attention. It was another little Cupid with its bow and arrow trained on me.

I wasn’t getting away this time.

“Get it over with, you ugly little harpies!” I yelled, throwing my briefcase at the nearest one. It dodged effortlessly. How could something so chubby be so graceful?

I saw the arrow leave the bow and felt a sharp pain in my chest. Then nothing but darkness.

Sho and I woke in the alleyway and did the only thing we could. We fell head over heels in love. It was a nice wedding, as far as weddings go.

Both of our mothers sat in the front rows, crying and beaming at us while we said our vows. They both admitted to bribing the Cupids, and were happy that we happened to be with the other when we were finally caught.

We laughed and smiled back while holding hands. What else could we do? The white arrow of true love had pierced our hearts. We were in love, happy. Vengful.

My mother was divorced, and Sho’s mother was a widow. All we needed was a corrupt Cupid with a sweet tooth.
