Stargazing, anyone? mightstealyrcar August 6 2011, 23:29:09 UTC
Which one's yours?

[Matt leans in close, as if he needs an excuse to.]

[Elfangor tugs Matt closer, grinning, and he guides his hand to point in the right direction.]

It is part of Ursa Major, though many humans call that constellation the Big Dipper. If you look just there, to the second bright point from the end of the 'handle,' with the fainter star beside it--that is my system, though you cannot see the other stars at this distance.

[He gives a chuckle.] It is interesting, that humans should call those two Mizar and Alcor, the "horse and rider." You would almost think that they had a very vague idea of the dominant species on one of those planets out there.

I know both names, [Matt murmurs, not wanting to speak too loudly and break the mood. He rests his cheek against Elfangor's, resisting for now the urge to turn his head and nuzzle in.]

And maybe we do know, on some level.

[Magic isn't as much of a stretch to believe in right now, with the sky velvety-deep and spangled with more stars than Matt's ever seen before, and with Elfangor beside him, the two of them together the closest thing Matt's ever felt to real magic.]

D'you ever want to go back?

[He thinks about that for a long time, and when he answers, he speaks at barely above a whisper.]

Sometimes I dream about my homeworld. About the different hues and textures to the grasses and trees, the sky and the suns and the moons.

I do miss it. But... I do not think I truly want to go back. I left that world behind a long time ago, and even when I returned to the war, the time I spent there on leave, it... it was not the same.

[How could it be, when he had learned how much his superiors kept from him, from his people? When he had run away, only to be deceptively maneuvered into returning? He'd seen that world once through the eyes of a child, and lost that innocence far too abruptly. But that is what war does to you, he supposes.

Besides, the place one is born does not determine what is home. That, you determine all on your own, and with the help of those who make it that ( ... )

[Matt gives a quiet, happy hum, and leans into the kiss for a moment, taking it slow. They have all the time they need, don't they?]

I never had a home in my world. Not really.

[Wammy's, and Mello, came closest, but that only lasted a few years, and then the world went to hell and everything changed.]

Even if I could go back, I wouldn't be tempted. And if anything tried to make me go back? I'd fight it. [He blushes, but he's smiling softly, too.] I'd fight to stay with you.

[It tears at him, to know that Matt didn't have a place to call home in his world, and he wants to be sorry for that--but how can he, when Matt is here, with him, saying how he would fight for this? For them. He tugs Matt closer, whispers in a sigh against his ear,] Oh, I would, too.

The Ellimist, he tricked me once into leaving one life for another. But I do not think that even his manipulations could pull me away from here. [Here, in your arms.]

[Matt nuzzles in, face against that spot he loves, the curve of Elfangor's neck into his shoulder. You're my home now, he thinks, and it's more than I ever could have imagined.]

He'd better not try. I'll kick his ass.
