Musings on gender roles and "strong" female characters

So I saw Jason Segel interviewed the other day about The 5 Year Engagement and I found it very interesting when the idea was brought up that he was essentially playing the “girls role” in the film.  They were talking about a scene with him and Emily Blunt in bed together, and that his character wanted hers to stay, or something - and that this, ( Read more... )

I have a feeling that's exactly what Joss intended with that scene, so we would be right along with Loki in the deception - it was nice to actually be fooled along with the villain rather than go "I can't believe he's falling for this" - like we all did in the later scene with Thor where my internal monologue was "It's a trick, don't try to knock him down....really. He's your *brother* - you know he does that illusion thing." So I didn't feel quite so bad about being fooled by Widow.

Good point about the shorts and I did like that the scene with Pepper was cute and comfortable.
