Words cannot describe the horror and sadness and affront that I felt when I read about the plight of Abdul Rahman, an Afghan man who converted from Islam to Christianity 15 years ago. I heard on the radio this morning (or last night) that it's actually his family doing the prosecuting, not the government, because of some child custody thing? Or maybe that was Yemen. I tend to tune out everything, it is so depressing :-(

Yeah, the case started out as a child-custody case. His wife divorced him because of his conversion, and there was a legal battle for the children. As a dirty-handed tactic, the family basically "outed" Rahman and told authorities that he converted to Christianity. So, the government took the reigns and is now prosecuting him on his religious faith, not child custody. It's no longer an issue of who gets the children; it's a matter of if Rahman will die because he believes in Jesus Christ.
