Game of Thrones: Season 5 in Korea

So Season Five of Game of Thrones is on and my mom's the only person in the family to watch it. I introduced mom to the series three years ago. I also regularly go over family trees and chronology and who's who with her. I knew she would like GOT: she's who gave me the nerdy/geeky genes. She was also a fan of the Beauty and the Beast, a fantasy/ ( Read more... )

What I really loved about GOT books was the multitude of viewpoints - it was a great experience to begin with hating a character only to read his/her viewpoint later on and starting to sympathise with him/her too. So eventually you kind of know where everyone comes from, but you can totally see why they can't get along and how inevitable that is ...
As for favourite chars - after reading the books I kind of liked Arya Stark the best ... not that I'd necessarily like to be around her if she were a real person in real life, but I liked how she managed to not get killed or maimed - turns out that it's kind of an important character trait in the world of GOT XD

I should probably watch the series too - I think I only watched the first season when it came out and then I got impatient and read all the books and then I kind felt like I already know what's going to happen - although, the series is supposed to be different in many ways.

Me too! I love the series don't really have a main character. George RR Martin is enormously talented at creating real characters with real flaws and leading readers to understand inevitable conflicts. He's an amazing writer in general ( ... )

Ah, yes, I admired Sansa's resilience too! At first she seemed like a disillusioned flower, but then she began to grow.

I loved how I absolutely hated Jamie along with his sister (for the rather obvious reason of crippling a main char child), and then came his viewpoint and his interactions with that female knight char and I realized that my feelings had turned around completely - although, there was always that memory of his more evil deeds as well - a nice reminder of them all being good and bad at the same time.

As for Catelyn, her post mortem self is kind of ... creepy XD

Like you, I didn't like Jaime until he lost his hand. I started to like him as a character when he opened up to Brienne and revealed a much more tormented man inside. George R R Martin is always fantastic in creating a flawed, doomed character. I hope Jaime pays for what he did - pushing Bran out of window, etc - but once he is gone, I will miss his character.

Zombie!Catelyn is a lot more decisive than her former self. She's doing what she should have done a long time ago - killing off Frays. Yay for her.
