Thank you for the beautiful review! I hadn't read this book yet, and now it's on the top of my list. I'm contemplating, making a Japanese study project out of it, if I were to read in the original language. But then again, it would be a slow proces ...

It's a masterpiece and definite must-read! Have you seen the Kinkakuji temple while you were in Japan?

Yes! I took a stroll around the golden tower and the garden. It was in the autumn :)

I was 13 when I visited there and I don't remember it much... The temple must have been beautiful with autumn foliage! I should've read this book before going, though I would've been too young to understand the book fully.

I can't boast remembering and understanding all that much myself. After all - it was eventually just a temple to visit. I'm quite sure, that having read a book about it beforehand would have helped with more vivid impressions :D Nevertheless - I remember seeing that oh-so-popular reflection of the golden tower on the pond with my own yes and the garden and autumn foliage (momiji) was beautiful and felt peaceful despite the hordes of sightseers :)

I seem to have trips to Japan quite often (a bit envious here) :)

Sounds great! You describe a postcard-worthy picture.

Not as often as I want to! It's just two hours away, though, so hopefully I can travel more in the future.
