GenreCon 2012 Review

I’m just back from GenreCon 2012.  Simply put, I had a ball.  It was also very conveniently located in Parramatta, which all conventions should be in future.  Organisationally, it ran smoothly, and felt rather similar to the Romance Writer’s of Australia convention I went to earlier this year, albeit smaller and covering crime, horror and spec-fic ( Read more... )

I agree, get to work. I need more reading material :p

In other news, a friend of mine is doing a close re-reading of the Wheel of Time series and apparently it's got some of the most awesome foreshadowing ever. Almost all the really big twists in the Sanderson books were hinted at in the first few books in the series.

There are certainly some signs of some deft plotting and tight foreshadowing in the Wheel of Time. I'm slowly crawling through the series prior to the release of the final book in April and the first five or so are well done - there's a sense of epic scale gradually clanking up and the characters shifting from their villager roles into movers and shakers. And then there's a few books where it all bogs down; I'll see how badly when I get there! I think it's much better reading it one big hit rather than waiting years between installment, too.
