I actually LOVED that this book was so different. I really felt JK "took the kid gloves off" and really gave herself permission to not gloss over a lot of stuff. I really didn't like how she handled the "love" storylines in HBP, but this time, they were a bit more upfront and more believable. I knew by the end of chapter one that we were really in for that Bloodbath, but I think it was great...again, she didn't have to worry about it being a KIDS book, IMO, and just ran with it.
I agree, I was a bit distracted by the Dumbledore stuff, especially in the beginning, because I felt is was handled in the other books, and Harry should have been moving on from that (and I was also thinking, WTF, when Harry was whining on and on about how Dumbledore didn't share his life story with Harry...how many older people do you know go around telling acquaintances about their deepest, darkest secrets?)
Anyway, will be looking for more of your insightful commentary

Absolutely. Why would Harry have asked about Dumbledore's history, and why would Dumbledore brought it up if Harry didn't ask? Their focus was on Riddle.
