The more distance I have between the first reading of "Deathly Hallows" and now, the more unsatisfied I am.
My biggest complaint is the character development (for everyone except the trio) was left behind in order to provide action. Everyone one seemed to be cardboard cut outs of themselves, except Ron, Hermione and Harry.
Chapter nine: A Place to Hide
Great chapter. It really captured the desperation and fear they were feeling in their flight to find safety. And the boys should be on their knees thanking Hermione, that girl thinks ahead! Where would they be without her? Damn it, nobody seems to acknowledge that she is as much a hero as any one else, including Harry! She had everything they needed in an emergency with her at all times, even during the wedding! Damn, I love that woman!
Chapter ten: Kreacher's Tale
Kreacher's Tale is horrible, but it wasn't surprising. I think most of fanfic had concluded something along those lines.
It's not surprising that the little bit of kindness Harry showed Kreacher ensured his trust, it's that Kreacher also in turn trusted Ron and Hermione. After all, Harry is his master and Kreacher is predisposed to obey him, but the respect he showed Ron, and especially Hermione, seemed out of place.
Guilt is consuming me, I'm supposed to be writing a grant request. More soon.
