I now officially a PhD candidate at Erasmus University, Rotterdam (well, I've not signed the contract yet, but I've had a call and been offered the position). I'll start on February 1. My project is about media tourism- people who travel to a site because of media. My project will be on film and television tourism, so places where popular movies/TV ( Read more... )

Well, of course you've been here before, but Berlin and Potsdam (Babelsberg) have a bit to offer when it comes to that. Like for example Sony Center where there are a lot of premiers for movies (autograph hunters, people who just want to snap pix of the actors/actresses on the red carpet etc.), there is a whole movie park in Babelsberg as well. Plus, we have a bazillion of talkshows etc. ;)

Also, Cologne comes to mind which is full of media (a lot of tv shows are being filmed there) as well.

And I have to say that your project sounds pretty awesome. Good luck with it!

I know! It'll be super neat.

(hmmmmm. That might be good! There is a "book" project as well- the project has 3 PhDs, one doing literature tourism, one doing music tourism (places mentioned in songs/as important to bands), and me doing film/TV. Not sure who would get things like Millenium Trilogy, though. I was thinking about Game of Thrones, which has the same issue except that Westeros is fictional but represented through Iceland/Croatia/wherever, making them the only place to go. unlike with the Millenium Trilogy, where Sweden is in the book as well as the movies. But we'll see!)

Congrats! I don't know what to suggest beyond...Iceland, Italy, and Prague. My mom's favorite Filipino teleserye (telenovela) filmed many parts in Vienna. French castle areas? -shrugs-
