it's weird because Anchorage is where the movie starts with like a good chunk of the supporting characters so I thought it might be too much, but where else would they stick a bunch of Germans? they don't speak Russian, Chinese, or Japanese, only Mario speaks Spanish, and I bet those with seniority pick LA. So Anchorage made the most sense. and hey, Philipp can go hiking.

it really is it really couldn't have been anyone else but you know Basti would want to ~be cool~ and stuff. I like to imagine he has the bleach-blond look here because that look is hilarious.

all you need to know: giant robots fight giant monsters, the giant robots are piloted by two soulbonded pilots.

(the fourth German is Timo of course. they're all mad at him.) (also guess who's piloting Foxtrot Arsenal. first two guesses don't count. :D )

Freddie has his red hair and speaks Japanese vaguely competently and Tokyo loves him. :D (Jens was clearly a fine potential pilot, but no one wanted to work with him because he was absolutely nuts, and Freddie liked that idea.)
