For those who noticed I’m holding a guitar in the photos of my reading at Octavia but weren’t sure why, here’s a video from the event that will clarify:

A man of many talents - Like the song, like the lyrics. Katrina was a real bitch and living the other side of the world it's difficult to understand or comprehend devastation on such a massive scale. At that time I made a CD rom of 100 of photograps to put in my journal so that my kids kids one day can see how it was. Has New Orleans recovered to a certain extent. Will it ever fully recover? As it is not a newsworthy item it hard to jude from here. Have fun at your further book launches (Remember the high days)

Thanks, Derek.

The city is far from recovered, but the residents have really made some astounding progress with very little help. We will continue to do that until it is done, because that is who we are.

You're right, we are no longer newsworthy -- and haven't been for a while. President Obama seems serious about righting the wrongs of the previous administration, but only time will tell. Actions, as always, speak louder than words.

I certainly have my fingers crossed, but at the same time, I know that, yes, I voted for a politician-- not a savior or a miracle worker.

I agree that Obama is only human -- but I don't think we're talking miracles here. We're talking about the end of false promises, and the beginning of reasonable efforts. I'm a big fan of the "good honest try." Still waiting to see what that means, in regards to New Orleans.

I'm still furious at how New Orleans was abandoned by our government. We send billions of dollars overseas to help other countries in times of disaster (and I'm glad we do, don't get me wrong), but we can't help our own people?!?
