California hasn't actually awoken, but it has opened.  Kinda.

I live in an area on the northern coast.  Back in the seventies, a lot of folks moved here because it was cheap.  It isn't cheap any more, but those people stayed.  Most of them are at least ten years older than I am.  (Math: 60 + 10 = 70)  They were brave, they were bold, they went "back ( Read more... )

Cue a very sad story about how that particular hardware store had been the very last store she'd been in before the lock down, and she'd been with her husband, who'd since passed away. She just couldn't bring herself to step over the threshold.

That is so sad :(( I'm glad the clerk was king to her.

Over here (my neighborhood specifically, I haven't had reason to go into the wider City yet), people are still wearing masks in stores, and some stores (most?) are still requiring it. Outdoors, a lot of people are still wearing masks, too, though many are also not. (The City is 60% fully vaccinated, but I think it's vaccinated people still wearing masks, too.)

Restaurants are hopping again -- other than the masks, everything looks pretty much back to normal.
