it would appear that some students don't know the difference between male and female... but given that they're engineering students, should this really come as a surprise??

i've been called 'sir' twice this morning... and i just opened an email that was addressed "Dear MR NUTT"

did i get a sex change and not know about it??and you may very well ( Read more... )

email guy, i don't know....

phone guy could possibly have been given the accent... but many of our students have funny accents and aren't 'international students' as such...

face to face guy, i'm not sure... again, many of our students have funny accents....

cos it could be a cultural thing... they dont know the diff between madam and sir ;)

seems farfetched i know.. but even my mum sometimes says "he" instead of "she"!

it's not really far fetched at all... i totally understand that the cultural confusion about gender specific pro-nouns (is that the right word??)...

regardless of that, i hate being referred to as 'madam' or whatever... i have a name, my name is lou lou, i was introduced to the students as lou lou and this is what they should call me....

all the academics were introduced as professor or associate professor, and that's what the students call them... why can't they do the same for me?

oh their shit gets shoved to the bottom of the pile if they do any or all of the following:

1) email me from any email address other than their rmit address
2) fail to provide a student number
3) don't tell me what their problem with the timetable is and just say something to the effect of "i'm having problems. please sort them out. thanks."
