I had a 4:30 appointment with the director of the DSS office at GWU to get my paperwork started. I stood outside my office for nearly 25 minutes before the shuttle finally came to take me to the Pentagon City metro station. I hopped into a cab at 4:25 and we headed into the district. I knew we were in trouble when the driver began turning around ( Read more... )

Oy. How tempting was it to stiff him? In my hundreds of years of riding in taxis and other public conveyances, I've only stiffed a cab driver once...but he totally deserved it. He tried to play the "Let's run up the meter on the blind guy" game, with a touch of "I'm a new driver and don't know where I'm going", even though I *did* give him explicit directions, as did Melanie (on my cellphone), which he very definitely didn't follow. Once he got me somewhat close, I hopped out, slammed the door, and walked off without paying him one red cent. Oh man I was pissed. I can't really say I felt very bad about it either, but just in case you're wondering--no--I definitely don't stiff service professionals on any sort of regular basis...but he really deserved it. (When they start calling you brother, you know someone's gonna get screwed.)

Hi There!
Been reading your livejournal, and have enjoyed it. Saw a link to it in a mutual community that we belong to. Good work on this thing.
Also wanted to know if you happen to know a girl named Golden Nicole, or just Nicole as she is generally called, from Indiana? I wouldnt ask in a comments page, but you don't have any contact info, and she had a best friend with the same name that she lost touch with. So was just wondering.
Anyway, great journal and I look forward to reading more.
