Sometimes a well-intentioned and well-placed lie is infinitely less hurtful than the truth. It's kinda sad, but sometimes necessary.

I completely agree with that statement, but, you know my thoughts on what I think should happen.

Yeah I think you did the right thing. Telling him straight out that you don't care about him would have hurt his feelings, so going with what you said was better, cause well.. as the other person on here said, it's necessary.

Maybe it's just because I'm a lot less deceitful, but I always advocate the truth. I think you should just tell him the truth but in a way that makes it easiest on him.

People lie about "Seeing someone else" all the darn time. It's sort of understood to be an "I like you, but I don't like you like you" without actually saying it anyways.
