If you saw something, talk to the authorities, and if your testimony checks out or seems useful, you will be called on in court, I'm sure.

What the heck is a "trial"?

When a potentially guilty party is brought before a judge and jury to determine whether he is innocent or guilty?

Judge? Jury? Isn't that what an emperor is supposed to do?

Mmmaybe. I don't really know much about emperors. Sounds like a pretty broken system for judging right and wrong, though! :P

You went to the Onsen with Shampoo? I'm surprised you survived without being physically abused.

The jerk went around picking fights. Why would you go through the trouble to defend someone like that?

So that "criminal" the whole island was after for a few days is one of your so-called friends?

*scratches the back of his head* Well, I hope he thinks I'm a friend, heh. I ran into his "other self" once before. It turns out that he's possessed by an evil monster that doesn't want him to get a wink of sleep! >8O It's crazy!

Possessed, huh?

Integrating with a spirit and being possessed by it are two different things, so I've never really been interested in the latter one. However, I believe an itako should be able to get rid of that "monster", as you call it.

Besides, I wouldn't be surprised if his behavior was caused by what the residents describe as "nightmare".
