Hi everyone!

I'm Kevin, welcoming myself to the group. I have recently moved to South Florida (Ft Lauderdale area) and would love to find some people to play board games with. Seems like there are plenty of chess clubs, but it's always a little harder to find people into a more diverse selection of sit-down games. My favorites include Scrabble and Puerto ( Read more... )

Hello. Good choice of games - have you tried Caylus? It's kind of 'the new Puerto Rico', which is to say the mechanisms are similar but the game is very different, so it's like Puerto Rico that you can still play if you get bored of Puerto Rico. And if you can persuade someone else to play it.

Just tried your game (well done, by the way, with the not-quite-a-Scrabble-board which avoids copyright or trademark issues). Good stuff. Took a while for the account confirmation email. Also, you are mean for beating my score. :)

Relatedly, I realise people signing up for multiple accounts is annoying, and could be used for a denial-of-service attack against a server, but the confirmation email says it's cheating - usually I'm pretty good at spotting ways to cheat, so as to be able to prevent it, but in this instance I have no idea. How would you use multiple accounts to cheat? It's not like you could get your score higher. Is there intended to be some sort of long-running ELO-like ranking, such that you could use multiple accounts to push other people's scores down?

I haven't tried Caylus, and until I find gaming people here in Florida only get to play games when I travel to previous stomping grounds. If it's like Puerto Rico, I bet I'd like it! Someone was telling me about a card game version of PR, is Caylus that or something else?

I plead not guilty to beating your score. I think you're referring to devjoe who pretty much shows up every day and beats everyone. There was a time earlier when I was using a standard set of puzzles for the timed version instead of doing it in real-time, and then you could cheat with multiple accounts. I should change the email - or drop activation altogether. But annoying is still annoying!

Caylus isn't the card game one, it's an entirely different game, it just has the same sort of 'shape' as Puerto Rico - the same indirect conflict between players, resource management and complete absence of randomness.

And yes, I was referring to devjoe - sorry, I assumed it'd be you, since you said it's your project, and 'dev' often refers to developers.
