Dream [001] ☼

It was bright and sunny, warm but not too hot for the Spanish nation as he walked forward with the basket in his arms.

“Come on, Romanito!”

“I’m coming, dammit,” the young Italian muttered, but when Spain looked back, Romano didn’t look as grumpy as usual.

It was probably the tomatoes in his arms that made him more cheerful-or rather, less grumpy-than usual, Spain mused.

The sun beat down on them brightly, gleaming on Romano’s brown hair as he followed Spain, picking the tomatoes from the plants as he went.

It was hot, but not as hot as it could get there normally in the middle of summer. But still, Spain paused in his harvesting, turning and smiling at the other, basket of tomatoes held on his hip by one hand.

“Do you want to stop for a break, Romanito?”

The Italian glared at him. “Don’t call me that, idiot!”

Spain simple laughed good-naturedly, shaking his head. “Come on, Romano. Let’s get some water.”

They sat under a large tree, safe from the sun in the shade its leaves cast. Spain offered the cup of cool water he had just retrieved to Romano. The child paused, but he took it after that moment’s hesitation, taking a deep gulp. He spluttered a moment later, and Spain chuckled.

“Careful, Romanito, it’s very cold,” he told the other with a smile.

Romano scowled at him, but he did take a more careful sip.

Romano ended up falling asleep on him, empty cup half overturned on the grass next to the baskets of tomatoes. Spain just leaned back against the tree and smiled down at his young charge.

[He doesn't wake up, but he does roll over with a happy smile.]
