Okay well, 'nani' in Japapanese means 'what', BUT i was recently told off by my Japanese friend when i said nani. He said it was very rude to say nani, and i should say 'ara' or 'eh' instead, as they nicer

I know pronounciation, it's just all the little bits that go on the end an their means, like kun, san, chan....and the other things..
Like in this anime i watch, a girl from the guy's class says 'Kurosaki-kun' which i think is informal....and this other guy (whom he does't know too well) says 'Kurosaki-san'....which i think is formal....*sigh*
It's occured to me that most I's in the jap language sound like E's
Kun, I think means younger or... something. Like you would call a younger child -kun or -chan.
-san and -sama are for respect, -sama giving more respect than -san. -dono means 'lady' or 'lord'. Very much respect, not really used. (How many lords do you know hmm?). Anyway, I had to get that little lecture for some stories I wrote. Haha.
Well like i say in this anime i watch, the guy is a 'Death God' yes a freakin' GOD, so alot of ppl say Kurosaki-dono....or dono-Kurosaki (i can't quite remember...)

The way they say second names first sometimes confuses me, cause when i fist seen the first character, they say onii-chan so i though that his name *sweatdrop* later i found out that just means 'brother' (or big brother, not sure) then they say Ichi-nii (which means 'brother Ichi'....i think) THEN they say Kurosaki-kun in the school....i'm telling you, i didn't know this guy's first name till the 3nd episode! His name is Ichigo, but his family say 'Ichi' for short and the school call him Kurosaki....dear god i had a rough time with everyone's names...i thought this girl name Inue, then i find out that her SECOND NAME!! AHHH!!

There are a lot of ways to say them, I think you can abbreviate and what not, but that's how we say it in kendo. Hope is helps.

And Nani does mean what, but maybe sayng 'what' in the japanese language can be taken as an insult... dunno.
