I got mine done at Peoples, and though it was via the piercing gun, it didn't hurt at all. (Keeping in mind that I fear needles above almost everything else, this is saying alot). I think it was like $20 to get them pierced with titanium studs (that come in Pink-purple, Blue or silver/titanium), though if you wanted fancier ones they can be more expensive. Anywho, I highly recommed getting them done at People's, they were super nice to me, and it was over in a few seconds. I'm not sure about if you get your ears pierced higher up, but the earlobe didn't hurt beyond a 'hot/itchy' feeling for a few seconds.
