New job dilemma

Feb 02, 2012 17:39

One of the jobs I applied for recently was at this English school, and it's actually pretty crazy. They had me do a phone interview, and then a Skype interview the next day, and then they wanted me to come in for a trial day on Saturday since that's their busiest day. It was INSANE, but I felt that I handled it fairly well. They said they'd get ( Read more... )

Yeah I think you're right. Actually I am really good in chaotic situations, and I really like unusual types of working situations. Like I'd really rather not be in an office the majority of the time. BUT I still would like to have work to do other than just the Saturday deal! I've only worked in the office now once, and was told that basically they just do accounting work on Monday after class the previous Saturday to account for the money made that day. I have no idea what the full time receptionist/accountant does the rest of the week, but she says she works there nearly every day. I thought they needed an assistant, but I'd barely be helping at all. I know they really really need the help but it's just weird ( ... )

Well, to be honest, it sounds to me like they were just looking for a Saturday person. Like, someone who already has a fulltime job elsewhere and wouldn't mind getting in some extra bucks (well, yen) on a Saturday. I don't know if that works that way in Japan, but it does here, people do it all the time.

But that's not what you were looking for, is it.. If it were me, I'd seriously reconsider taking that other job, if that's still available.

It does sound like they dont really know what they need, so just go with it. It's an adventure, you are working, just look at it like that. You dont really know what you want either so that is probably why you attracted it. So, get what you can out of it, until you attract something more.Peace~~~Mom

Yeah I'm still confused about it and I'm supposedly already hired. I got to go in on Monday this week and help out with some accounting and filing work in the "office" which is set up in one of the teacher's homes. It was actually pretty cool though I do think some of the things they do are redundant and could be done more efficiently and more quickly.

But more importantly, yeah, this Saturday there is no class, so there wont be any accounting to do on the following Monday (Feb 13th), and then I wont have work again until next Saturday the 18th. I was hoping they might ask me to come to the office again later this week but they didn't... I think this is a really neat place to work but the hours are so thin that I really actually think I ought to work somewhere else. I just... I dunno. I can work up to 28 hours a week but I'd rather only work enough to make about 80000 yen a month. So.. 20 hours a week? XD 5h x 4 days a week.. I suppose that's ok. or even 8 hrs 3 times a week is 24, that'd be cool. Sorry, typing out my thoughts.
