Changmin and Yunho go well together. Why?
They just do.
---
When promoting Mirotic comes around, Yunho drops all the weight he can so his moobs aren't as prominent. He goes on the typical model diet of cup after cup of black coffee followed by cigarettes whenever he can manage to sneak one in. It works pretty well; people compliment him on being in the best shape of his life and he always thanks them with a happy smile, in a state of constant euphoria (with the occasional stomach cramp) that only comes from perpetual hunger.
---
Changmin's hyungs have always been bad influences. Bad, being a relative word here.
He had grown up around rather naughty tales of girls as everyone went through puberty before he did, was taught why committment is always a bad idea because it will always ends in either unhappiness and oppresion or painful divorce, and was subject to secondhand smoke from everyone except Junsu.
He was introduced to piercings and tattoos and drinking and partying all before he hit the ripe old age of 16.
Changmin's wouldn't say he gives in to peer pressure but he's still only human. He's influenced in ways he doesn't realize himself until careful reminiscing that inevitably takes place 30 years down the road.
Changmin's always had a natural disposition for these things.
---
When he starts filming his drama, the very first thing he's advised to do isn't to memorize lines, isn't to learn to control his facial muscles by doing weird exercises while looking into a mirror, isn't how to loosen up and carry himself and those awkwardly long limbs with more grace.
It's quite simply, to lose weight.
Changmin and Yunho go well together. They always have. Changmin decides to try out that model diet his Yunho has been going on every now and then to see if it works for him.
The hunger makes him drastically moody but the points of brightness are pretty spectacular. He stops feeling it after a while and he feels light and floaty, usually going from place to place with a not-really-all-there smile.
And he's always loved coffee, bitter or not, so that's pretty nice. He has energy all day long--except when he crashes, of course--but that's what the cigarettes are for: to suppress his hunger and offer that high he can't get from anywhere else.
And it's kind of sexy, he finds, especially when Yunho comes up to him one night to bum a smoke off of him. Faces tilted close together in the dark, illuminated by only the glow of the burning end of his lonely cigarette, Changmin shares his fire with Yunho until there's a brighter, even glow from two lit cigarettes, their hands laced together between them.
Everyone changes, because everything always does.
A smoky kiss that smoulders isn't any worse than pecks that taste like candy.
---
People don't really notice the little things. Changmin doesn't wear glasses very often and most people assume that he's wearing contacts.
That's not true.
Changmin often walks around without any kind of visual aid whatsoever, not because he's irritating, not because he likes to be blind, but because he naturally seeks softness from the world. He's never recived anything but hardship so he'd rather blur the sharp corners and hard edges until everything is soft and seemingly glowing with warmth, until all the lights have fuzzy halos, until the world doesn't seem as cold and unforgiving as it has been to him.
No one knows these things. Only Yunho would.
Yunho's the person that sees the random bruises on Changmin's legs when the younger man miscalculates distances to hard objects. Yunho's the person who sees the random bruises on Changmin's arms when Changmin walks right into doorframes.
He understands Changmin better than Changmin can express himself. And maybe that's why they just go well together; because words don't mean much at the end of the day.
---
There's no judgment, no questioning, no questions of right and wrong.
Yunho's the cute, dreamy romantic who'll always make you laugh and Changmin's the realistic, sharp-tongued quiet guy who secretly does all the laughing. There's always a difference between what is and what ought to be.
Just like how Changmin's more of a romantic than people care to see, and how Yunho's too much of a positivist to believe that the world works on the should'ves of everyday life.
They love each other, sure, but they also like each other more than anyone could put into words.
And since they're the only ones who truly matter to each other, that's all that really counts, isn't it?
---
They defy the probable by staying together. They care about what other people say but they care about each other more.
Maybe that's why they go so well together. There's Changmin, there's Yunho, and then there's Changmin and Yunho together. Where one goes, the other follows, no questions asked.
One plus one still equals one.
It's all just a matter of perspective.
---
Instead of telling me to change,
Can't you change with me?
