Character: Sokka
Fandom: Avatar: the Last Airbender [the cartoon plzkthx]
Character Notes:
History: When Sokka and his sister Katara were young, the Fire Nation attacked their village in the Southern Water Tribe. They were in search of the one remaining water bender rumored to be hiding there. The General took Sokka's mother and demanded to know who was the water bender, and her family would be spared. Knowing that her daughter, Katara, was indeed the last remaining water bender of the Southern Water Tribe, she lied and said it was her. He killed Sokka's mother and shortly thereafter Sokka's father led their tribe into battle against the fire nation. Sokka and Katara were raised by their Gran until the fateful day when they discovered the Avatar frozen in the ice.

From there on, he traveled with Aang and Katara as she helped the Avatar to master water-bending, while learning a thing or two herself. The trio (plus Aang's air bison & Momo) are constantly under attack from exiled Fire Prince Zuko, who must capture the Avatar in order to get back into his father, Fire Lord Ozai's good graces. In following the seasonal order in which Aang must learn the elements, the next Nation they visit is the Earth Kingdom. They also gain another member of their group there, Toph, who helps Aang master earth-bending.

One of Sokka's love interests, Yue, is from the Northern Water Tribe, where there are still water benders. She sacrifices her life on Earth to become the moon spirit after [Tui] was killed by Zhao (Zuko's Fire Nation rival). Though this devastates Sokka, he regroups and carries on.

In Book 3, he is reunited with his father, and Pakku, the water-bending master to Aang and Katara, marries their Gran. Soon, they will prepare to fight against Fire Lord Ozai, but without a master to train Aang fire-bending this goal seems hopeless. Until Zuko has a change of heart, and [finally] joins their cause. Sokka meets his current girlfriend, Suki, and they all prepare for the coming meteor with heavy hearts.

At last, Aang defeats Ozai, but he does so by taking away his fire-bending rather than killing him, again exhibiting an exceptional show of mercy that Sokka almost doesn't understand, but most certainly respects. Zuko defeats his sister and takes the crown that was rightfully his, restoring all to be [mostly] right with the world.

I'll be taking Sokka from post-canon. This will mean he's still two years younger than the other DDD Avatarians.

Personality: Sokka is loud, and doesn't hesitate to share his opinion, but he gets nervous quite easily. If his friends or family are truly in danger, however, his true colors show and his bravery comes forth. He is a strong warrior at heart and will do anything to protect his sister and his friends. He is loyal to a fault, though initially suspicious of new people. Master Piandao describes Sokka as having, "A heart as strong as a lion-turtle, and twice as big." Though he can often seem petty or jealous of his sister's water-bending abilities, he only wants to be able to help and as he learns his own worth his confidence builds. He also gets hungry really easily, which makes him cranky, and goes into big, drawn out explanations that probably say very little. And his jokes are always stupid, but his friends like them :D
Other: Oh, and he's also really dramatic.

First Person (entry type): [Voice]
A talking scroll?!?! Hellooooo~~?? Can anybody hear me~?

[ the voice suddenly sobers ] Sokka. Get it together. There's no such thing as a talking scroll. [ then the sound of crinkling paper ] Especially...blank ones?? Why are you blank? [ he demands of it ] I could've sworn I heard a voice.... Are you a Fire Nation Spy?!?! Sent to ~kidnap the Avatar? Don't play dumb! ...I know what you're up to....

[ a loud crack can be heard and then - a girly scream ]

OhMyMoonGoddesswhatWASthat???! [ squeaks out ] Momo..? ..Appa? ......forest ghosts?

I better get back to camp before Katara ~worries. Or..has a reason to worry.

Huh. Well. If this really is a blank..talking..scroll, I guess it won't help Aang any. I'll just... hang onto it for now. Yeah. Our secret, scroll-y, you and me. Shhhhhh

Third Person:
As Appa took him higher, Sokka recalled his first air-bison ride. Scared witless, he hadn't even noticed how bits of the clouds stayed behind in his hair and on his coat, and he certainly hadn't remembered that so high up, the air tasted almost salty. A small sigh escaped his lips as he held his arms out to the side; he was on top of the world. Nothing could get him down, not even the oncoming showers. Droplets fell from the clouds, merely inches overhead. Gentle at first, the water sought out his eyelids and lips, his exposed neck and ears. For just a moment, suspended here, he could pretend he was his sister, the last waterbender. Or even Aang; he was sure he had never felt so in touch with the elements. His dreams were as limitless as the sky, and his sword felt heavy, strapped to his back, weighing him back down to earth.

Slowly, reluctantly, he let Appa take him home, back to the trees and the rivers and over the buildings. He knew his family would be waiting, and even a hot meal. But even the prospect of food didn't convince him to move any faster. He clambered down off the giant creature, staring up at where he'd come from, his clothes almost soaked through as the storm gained malice.

"What're you so angry for?" he called up to the clouds through cupped gloved fingers. "We won!"

He laughed, doing a little victory dance in place as he reveled in the feel of water sluicing down his bare skin. He felt young again, as if the ending of this war had brought back his lost innocence; his lost youth.

Katara was watching him through the doorway, ever the elder sibling despite her actual age. When she was sure her brother was quite done she called to him, "You're going to catch pneumonia, Sokka. Come inside where it's warm and dry."

Sokka looked a bit guilty at having been caught in his childish behavior but as he got a little closer, Katara could see the intent in his eyes. And she couldn't get away fast enough before her brother grabbed her hands and swept her out into the rain to dance. She laughed too, spinning as the water cycloned overhead, and all around them, her borrowed clothes making a stark contrast to her brother's blue coat from back home.

"Are you ready to come inside now?" she asked, still trying to appear put upon. ".. dinner must be cold by now."

Sokka soared by her, almost knocking Katara clean off her feet as he raced through the open door to his no-longer-hot meal.

Katara just shook her head, and trailed after.
