My LJ Dilemmas

Jun 09, 2011 20:42

It took me well over five weeks to understand the fanfiction.net website. In those initial weeks, I didn’t realize I could see story traffic, story alerts, and favorites for my first story. Without those stats, I estimated somewhere between seven and twenty people were reading ‘Friendship On Ice.’ That was simply based on the reviews I received. I ( Read more... )

I think that you are an amazing writer and for that reason can have people approach you, if you want. The same way that Ciara let people know by writing in her FF profile that she had moved her TVD fics here, I think you could just mention your LJ in your author's notes and profile, then people will flock to follow you. I mean, just look at your story, Bet Me. You have two chapters up and already 137 reviews! People love your work.

Btw, I'm new to the site also. So, I know how you feel a bit. I'm hoping to really get into knowing what I'm doing and also getting to know people. I see the relationship between numerous authors from FF and I think it's awesome how it's almost like an online family. xD

Yes it is like an online family, you are right, and it is awesome.

If you work out what you're doing on here, let me know :) I'll probably still be trying to figure it out.

I'm new to LJ as well and it confuses the hell out of me.LOL
But as long as I can read yours and Ciara's awesome fanfiction everything is fine.
I think you should mention your LJ in your a/n and tons of people will follow you here:)))

Thank you. It's nice to know I'm not the only person confused by the site. LOL.

And it's nice to hear you want to read my fanfics. I get a great deal of pleasure from reading that.

As for people wanting to follow me on here, that is a nice thought, I just don't want people to feel as if they have to.

I still haven't got LJ totally figured out myself. My standard policy has kind of been like this. If you want to read my stories, I need you to let me know. Even if it's just a line or two. So on my FF profile, I've asked people to message me if they'd like to be added to my friends list.

If people friend me without a message, I'm not likely to add them unless it's someone I know personally. After what happened on FF.net, I needed that extra bit of reassurance that the people reading my stories are doing so in good faith and because they want to.

Not sure how much that helps. LoL.

I giggled after reading this because while friending you guarantees access to top quality fanfiction. Friending me gives access to my rejects, cast offs and 'fails'. Lol.

Maybe but I should point out that your "fails" are still miles and miles above many people's best work. Not to be mean vis a vis those people but it's true.

Shouldn't you be... lokya2046 June 9 2011, 12:51:42 UTC
writing your fic as so many of us are waiting for your update! ;)

But I have no right to say this while I should be working instead of reading blog post.

Funny we all start with wanting to read ciara's fic when joining LJ. So, I have no intention to really find out how to use the site, except setting email alert so I will know my friends like ciara or you have updates.

And I don't know you can restrict some posts to friend only while others can still let everyone to see! (Cos I told people you have posted the original prologue here but they told me that they can read your DE o/s but not TMS prologue)!

I always wondered how you choose to be "friend" or "not friend" when you received a friend request. I see Ciara's policy above. But what about you? I am curious.

Oh she totally is. For fictions and sleep. It's part of her charm!

Haha Daisy,

Yes, I should be writing, but today is a bad day for me. My hormones are all over the place, and I haven't stopped crying. When I feel the way I do, sometimes I need to take a time out, and then I can write better. So today I've just been posting some thoughts here, and working on a bit of light and airy entertainment to post on LJ.

Yes, I can set some entries to friends only, which is what I have been debating about.

If I receive a friend request I could ignore and not be friends. That has happened to me when I tried to friend someone.

I totally understand what you mean! I made an account so I could read Ciara's fics, but I still haven't figured it out how to actually use my account, lol.

It took me a few days to understand how Fanfictions worked, but this just seems to be much more difficult.

You're right, it does seem more difficult :) Hopefully we can figure it out together.
