Junsu flung himself onto the couch, narrowly missing Jaejoong’s sleeping form, sadly not being so lucky when said man threw a pillow at his face.
“Hey man, watch where you’re sitting! Your ass could kill someone.” Jaejoong mumbled, sitting up and rubbing his eyes.
“Why do you look so happy?”
“Jaejoong I’m in LOVE!” he exclaimed, flinging his arms in the air before squishing the pillow which had landed on his chest.
“He finally told you then huh? When did this happen? Why did no one tell me?!” Jae sulked, crossing his arms across his chest before noticing Junsu’s confused expression.
“Wait, what? Yunhee is a girl! Idiot.”
“Yun…hee? Ehhh?” He stuttered, scratching his head.
“Don’t you ever listen to me? Come see.” Junsu sighed, dragging Jaejoong from the sofa into his room. “Read this, isn’t she wonderful?” He pulled up an IM conversation, nudging Jaejoong to start reading.
“It’s wonderful man but… Aiiishh look at the time…” the older man flushed, running out of the room, leaving Junsu to wallow in his confusion.
A high pitched noise came from the laptop, bringing Junsu from his daze.
“Eeeeeee! Yunhee!” he squealed, nearly missing the chair in his hurry to sit down and start typing.
FootballManiac: Hiiiiiiiii!
Yunhee: Ahh hi Junsu~<3 I missed you.
FM: I missed you too! I was thinking so much about you just now... We should meet up!
….….
FM: Yunhee? You don’t want to? It’s okay... I shouldn’t be so forward huh?
Junsu sighed, mentally hitting himself, he was useless with stuff like this. He got up to leave when his screen flashed, catching his attention.
Yunhee: Tomorrow at the coffee shop in town, 1pm, I’ll be wearing red...
~Yunhee has signed off~
Junsu sat grinning at his laptop. Looking at the time, his breath hitched.
“Only 15 hours to prepare! Ack! JAEJOONG! I’VE GOT A DATE! HELP ME GET READY!!”
ㅡXㅡ
“Are you sure you want to do this?” Jaejoong peered at his friend, not trying to hide his worry.
“Course I’m sure! It’s gonna be great, just you watch.” Junsu replied, bouncing on his feet excitedly.
“But what about...” Junsu cut him off with a fierce glare, before turning to the mirror and grinning again.
“She could be a 50 year old pervert man! Or a rapist!” Yunho screeched, jumping up from the bed and tugging at Junsu’s arm.
Yoochun walked into the room, the loud commotion catching his attention “What’s going on in here? Oh…you look handsome today Junsu.” He smiled, moving closer to his friend and helping him straighten out his shirt. “What’s the occasion?”
“Junsu has a date! With a girl!” Everyone turned to look at Changmin who was now bouncing on the bed, strangely resembling a school girl.
Junsu finished preparing himself, adding just a touch of cologne before stepping back from the mirror and nervously grinning at his friends.
“I’m off... Wish me luck.”
“Don’t get raped!” Yunho shouted, instantly setting off laughter between the members.
Once Junsu had left, everyone turned their attention to Yoochun, searching his face for any emotion.
“I’m going for a walk, the weather is so beautiful today it seems a shame to waste it.” Yoochun trailed off, making his way out the door. He stopped in front of the mirror and smiled nervously, looking away from his reflection almost instantly and running out the front door.
ㅡXㅡ
Junsu stood in front of the coffee house, checking his reflection in the window before looking at his watch again. “2 hours late… Yunhee, where are you?“ He mumbled under his breath, hating himself for forgetting his phone when he most needed it. Losing the last of his hope as he exhaled, he leaned against the shop front and looked up at the sky. It really was a beautiful day despite his bad luck.
Another hour passed, Junsu was still slumped against the shop window, the soles of his feet silently begging for rest. Feeling his eyes cloud over with tears, he closed them tightly, mentally kicking himself for getting so worked up over a girl. A single tear ran down his cheek, falling quickly and marking the ground. He put his foot over it, not wanting to admit his weakness even to himself, before turning to head home and walking straight into someone.
“Sorry… I wasn’t looking where I was… Yoochun? I‘m so glad you‘re here.” He cried, flinging himself into the other man’s arms and hugging him tightly.
“You wanna get some coffee? My treat...”
Junsu banged his cup on the table, attracting the attention of the people around him. “How could she do this to me?! I thought she liked me man… We have so much in common.” He slurred between sobs, gesturing wildly with his hands. Yoochun would’ve laughed and compared him to a drunk if the other man wasn’t so upset.
“I thought she loved me like I…” He trailed off, sighing and taking another sip of his 4th cup of coffee. “I thought she was different. She really listened to me. Like, really listened, you know?” Junsu looked up from his cup, focusing on the man opposite. “That shirt is hideous. You look like a sunburnt lobster.” he laughed, temporarily distracting himself from his heartbreak.
“Thanks! I thought it was my colour... Guess not.” Yoochun laughed, his laugh laced with nervousness. He gulped, fiddling with his shirt and trying to think of the right words to say.
“Junsu, I...”
“Would you date me if you were a girl?” Junsu interrupted, dramatically pointing his finger towards Yoochun’s face.
“I… a girl?”
“Yeah, two guys can’t date, you know that.” He laughed, cutting short as he realised his own words.
Yoochun felt his heart break, turning his head to the side to hide the tears already gushing from his eyes, he mumbled his excuses and ran from the shop, not caring about the scene he caused or the people who got in his way.
ㅡXㅡ
Jaejoong reached over, ruffling Junsu’s hair. “Are you sure she didn’t see you and leave? You do look bad today.” Instantly being hit around the head by a strong hand.
“Don’t worry man, maybe there was some misunderstanding. Go ask her?” Changmin offered, smiling warmly before turning his head to sneer at Jaejoong.
Junsu nodded, hope beginning to fill his heart once more as he rushed to his room to check his laptop.
“Why are you so compassionate today? Someone drugged your tea?” Yunho laughed, nudging Changmin in the ribs.
“He’s not compassionate to me,” Jaejoong whined, rubbing his sore head. “That hurt!”
Changmin grinned, leaning back into the sofa. “It’s your own fault.”
Junsu furiously typed his details into the messenger, silently praying to the Gods for luck as he searched through his online friends. “Why isn’t she online? She always is around this time…” He panted, voice filled with worry as he opened up his phone. His expression dropped as he heard the somewhat robotic voice through the phone.
“I’m sorry, this number does not exist. Please try again with a different number.”
ㅡXㅡ
“Diamond in the night sky, far far away…” Junsu sang through tears, ripping up the love letters he’d spent so long writing.
“A golden star I gazed upon in my dream.” He tossed the paper in the waste basket, lighting a match before throwing it in too.
“On a sleepless evening, I sing alone.” The glow of the rising fire illuminating his face, the tears resembling glistening diamonds.
“And tomorrow I’ll sing with you, on the wings of a dream…” The last word merging into a loud cry. He tipped water over the fire, gazing at the charred remains of his letters.
He felt the bed dip as Yunho sat beside him, gently stroking his back.
“What was that song?”
“Yunhee made it up for me” His voice sounding wobbly and hoarse from the crying.
“Are you sure? I’m sure I heard Yoochun singing it earlier.” Yunho replied confusedly, ceasing his hand movements as Junsu sat up to face him. “I wonder where he is anyway, he left right after you did this afternoon.”
Junsu stared into the darkness of the room, his face contorting with confusion, then anger.
“The red shirt… how he was coincidentally there when I was… That fucking BASTARD. Did you know about this?! Was it all some kind of joke to you lot?! Is that why he left so sharply at the coffee house, he couldn‘t keep his laughter in anymore? IS THAT IT?” Junsu stood up, angrily glaring at Yunho.
“I seriously have no idea what you’re on about. Where are you going?!” He tried to follow Junsu, who was already out of the room and towards the front door.
"I'm going to see Yunhee," he snarled, leaving and slamming the door behind him.
ㅡXㅡ
Junsu ran down the street, not caring about his lack of shoes or the heavy rain soaking through his clothes. This didn’t make sense at all. How could his supposed best friend do something like this? Lead him on for weeks just to break his heart.
When Yoochun’s apartment was in sight, his eyes shaded over with pure anger. He ran up the path and punched the door repeatedly, shouting at the man inside.
“Get out here you BASTARD!” He yelled, slamming his full weight against the door.
“Let me explain, please!” Yoochun pleaded from inside the house, desperately trying to keep the door closed.
“EXPLAIN WHAT?! I HATE YOU. No friend would do such a thing! Was this all some sick joke to you? Is your life that pathetic you have to find enjoyment from making other people miserable? Leading them on then breaking their heart?!” Junsu was past angry now, this was a whole new level of emotion. Something akin to what mass murderers must feel before a killing spree.
“IT WAS THE ONLY WAY” Yoochun cried, falling against the door and sliding to the floor, trying to block out the sounds of repetitive punching and cursing from outside.
Junsu relaxed, though the anger was still clear on his face.
“What do you mean, the only way for what?” Minutes passed, the sound of heavy breathing and crying coming from inside the house, generously compensating for the silence. “Yoochun, fucking answer me.”
Yoochun opened the door, half hiding behind it. He looked down at the floor, eyes still clouded with tears and he tried to calm his breathing.
Junsu pushed his way into the house, backing Yoochun up against the wall and resisting the urge to punch him in the face.
Yoochun shuddered, feeling the warmth of the other man so close to him.
“I love you… I love you more than anyone else ever can." he choked, gazing into Junsu’s eyes, searching for acceptance.
Junsu moved away, his face expressionless as he turned to leave.
“Junsu!“ Yoochun lurched forward, clinging to him with all his strength, trying desperately to stop him from leaving.
“GET OFF ME. I never want you to touch me or even be NEAR me right now,” he shouted, each word laced with so much hate, each syllable cut like a dagger.
Junsu pulled Yoochun off him, throwing him to the ground and running out before the other man had a chance to get up.
"You loved Yunhee!" Yoochun screamed after him, still slumped in a pile on the floor. "How am I any different?!"
ㅡXㅡ
The moonlight shone into the room, highlighting everything subtly. Yoochun was curled into a ball, staring at the laptop screen displaying the IM chat history.
“FootballManiac: It was so nice talking to you tonight. This must seem so weird to everyone else… I don’t even know what you look like. But…you just seem special. Your personality is one in a million Yunhee. You make my heart go crazy when we speak. Goodnight and sweet dreams, my flower lady <3”
Fresh tears stung his eyes, running down his cheek and temporarily staining the carpet. He shut his laptop and lay on his back; he listened to the sound of the pouring rain and felt a sense of subtle calmness wash over his body.
He awoke to loud knocking coming from his front door but dismissed it, they didn’t matter right now. More knocking… He sighed, why couldn’t they just leave him alone? Slowly drifting back to sleep, he heard a familiar voice shouting his name.
He walked to the door, opening it timidly. Before he could even react he was pushed against the wall, wet lips attacking his own. Junsu drew back, rain soaked clothes clinging to his body as he breathed heavily.
“Junsu…” He started, desperately trying to form words that made sense.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry Yoochun.” Junsu cried, falling to the floor in exhaustion.
“But I’m a guy! You said two guys can’t date!” Yoochun almost screamed, his voice filled with desperation and confusion. He sank to his knees, leaning against Junsu.
“I’ve been trying to deny how I felt for so long, trying to make myself believe I didn’t feel what I did. Telling myself this was wrong, punishing myself every time I thought about you. I‘m so sorry. Please… please forgive me.” He turned, facing the other man and holding his face with his hands desperately, eyes filled with so much pleading emotion.
Yoochun touched Junsu’s hand on his cheek, smiling truthfully for the first time in months and moving forward slowly to kiss him. Junsu smiled against his lips, wrapping his arms around Yoochun and pulling him closer, holding him against his body.
Yoochun buried himself in Junsu's arms, feeling the body heat encase him and making him sigh of out true happiness.
“Love doesn’t have rules, Junsu. Not this love."
