Nothing appeased Alice's guilt about the Wilson Situation. No amount of reading, or burrowing into John's chest, or sleeping, or swimming had assuaged the sick feeling in her gut. Meddling doesn't help. Should've just let the boys fight it out on their own. After another listless afternoon of folding and unfolding herself on her bed, she got up ( Read more... )

Wilson was watching old Dragnet reruns, squinting passively at the television. His pillow was folded in half and wedged underneath his chest, his elbows propped underneath him as he laid on his front and rested his chin on his hands. He frowned when he heard a knock at the door. Not because his program was being interrupted - Wilson didn't care to be stuck in his room but had decided to take it easy for some of today after how sick he'd been recently - but because he didn't recognize the knock ( ... )

Alice shook her head. "I'm sorry." She bit her lip hard, and in that moment wished she wasn't in the hotel. She would've said she was sorry to Wilson, packed her bags, and wheedled John into going somewhere else with her. She thought John would like London.

"I'm sorry, and I tried to help but it turned into meddling. Probably because I hate House. Which doesn't make me better than him. But I'm sorry, and I'm just... going to go. I wanted you to know that I know what I did makes me as big a piece of shit as him." She felt her eyes tearing up and laughed. "Christ. I'm such a female."

She turned to leave, but looked back. "You look really... good."

Wilson frowned at her and shook his head, opening his mouth after her first apology but closing it when she continued. He shook his head again and was about to call out to her to stop her from leaving when she turned back and complimented him. He scoffed and gave her the same special smile he'd given her the first time he'd laid eyes on her. Wilson liked Alice. Very much. In complete and utter spite of everything, he couldn't bring himself to be upset or angry with her.

"Thanks," he replied, his smile still hanging on his face. Then he gently rested a hand on the young woman's shoulder and urged her inside. "And hush. Now please...come in, alright?"

"Okay." She bit her lip a little bit, following his lead and moving into his room. It was tidy and well appointed. It suited him. She wasn't wearing shoes, so she made herself at home by sitting on his bed, smiling shyly up at him.

How had two of the nicest people in the world gravitated to someone like House? House wasn't quite Dan - Dan had led her on for a year before telling her he'd broken her heart - but he was callous. Uncaring. She couldn't understand why they couldn't see it. But if she was going to be Lisa and James' friend, she knew she'd just have to ignore it.

"You do. You look really..." She tried to find an adjective she could use as a taken woman. "Fit."
