beceause we have been conditioned not to think about the feelings of strangers let alone other species of animals, a lesser and unsophistocated creation. which is bullshit.
i agree with you jake, but if you look at the treatment of domestic animals by the western populations and go back to not even 200 years ago, you see cases of dog vs. bear fighting, a great cat massacre that occured in france for "fun", and other such instances which have traveled in different forms to our time.
i think that some humans have in their minds that only they can feel pain.
that last part is very similar to an earth crisis lyric.
but i also feel that a lot hasnt changed as far as 200 years ago. the majority of people still had that mentality because thats what was taught. but for centuries philosophers(sp?) have been teaching that true peace cannont be achieved til we stop the killing of animals for our own pleasure (which includes the torture and brreding of animals for food). it has progressively only gotten worse as we advance as a species. but i do not think that this is a result of human character. rather it is the end product of a society bent on always having the upper hand no matter what the issue. i would say that being competative is where the answer lies and if you think about it we have just carried the competition for survive way way way too far. we can only hope that through education on many fronts that a life style full of meaning is reached.
Ahh.. this topic angers me so. I just hate how people think animals are so fucking disposable and without emotion.
I actually get teary when I see them on the side of the road. It's really upsetting, but Animal Care and Control will only pick them up if they are IN the actual road. If they are on the side they won't. It's pretty sad.
alexis, today i saw 12 dead dogs and cats! fucking today alone, in just the tempe mesa area. the worst was a fucking shepard who was torn in half on the 202, that made me the most angry, someone let their god damn pet ride in the back of a truck on the freeway going 70mph. i was in tears and enraged and disgusted.
i always try to look to see if there is any sort of moving or breathing on the animal because i do know that at slow speeds some animals do actually survive and end up dying on the street in pain, but i haven't found one yet. :(
yes im disguisted and saddened by it too. last semister for over 2 weeks there was a dead orange cat that was on the side of the road right by one of the franklin crosswalks, and everyday its body would become more mutilated. i have a hard time realizing that people just do not care about their pets, they're not a companion, they're just a mere animal that is a much less of a creature than a human. if some people dont even go to the doctors then why would they even concider ever taking their pet to the vets? but pets are much more than just animals, they have personality and they clean themselves and they have some intelligence and they have blood running through their viens just like we do and they have facial expressions and can express feelings, and i think in many ways they are much better off than humans because they dont know any evil.. haha and right when i finished typing all of this i yelled to freckles "you're dumb as hell, bitch" for barking at a motorcyclist
