I saw that last night. I hate that she died so young.

I know. I did a quick google for a bio link for her, and the first one that popped up had her quoted as saying that she was a 56 year old writer... who wanted to someday be an 80 year old writer. So sad.

I am sad to say I haven't read anything by Octavia Butler but I now have at least 5 holds at the library on her books.

So thank you for posting this!

Start with either the Patternmaster or Parable series, IMO. Or the short story anthology. You have some great reads ahead of you!

Now I feel guilty that I could never get into her books. I have Lilith's Brood but haven't read it past the opening pages. But maybe the kids were the problem and I can give it another go.

Cris! Any way to talk you into considering a YASH thing in July? In or near Olympia? The weekend of the 14th-16th? Chandra's gonna look into being there, I think, so maybe you could both come? It really wouldn't be the same at all without you there! I still miss you horribly.

Turns out me and Jaz are gonna be up there the same week and it's kinda snowballed into a full blown gathering in the works.

And if not this time, my MIL is living in WA state now, which is why we'll be up there from the 7th-17th. So maybe on our trip up next year we could make it up to BC.

This is jazstarry.

Hey, I didn't know Octavia Butler was black! And I didn't know she had died. That is really sad.

On another note I also miss you terribly, you scoundrel, and would love to see you online or IRl sometime!!!!! Say you'll come to Portland when we're there! How the heck are ya?

XOXO,
Jaz
