shitty stories

When I see something that really moves me, I have to write about it. Wth my job at the animal shelter, I think I'll end up with a book. It's a hard job, physically. But it's the emotional drain that's really hard. In the lunch room they talk of "my first breakdown" and describe in stomach-churning detail the acrid smell of an honest to goodness ( Read more... )

Awww! Good on you! I am a cat lover myself. I don't understand animal cruelty either. The house I just moved into has two cats abandonded by the previous owners which we have taken on, fed, and loved. I just don't understand how people could leave their pets behind! It's hard enough for me to leave my cat when I go to work! I give him a big cuddle, remind him he's a very lucky boy, and promise I'll come home soon :-)

I love you and your big heart. And Talli! And Atom! And the soon to be foster puppy that will be living in our bathroom.

hi hon...

Jacob told me you got this shelter job. I did it for 8 summers in a row. Nightmares, breakdowns, fosters, the whole bit. If you want, I can add you to my friends list and you can go back and read some of my accounts from work...I didn't post every day because most nights, I didn't feel like washing off and then sitting down to relive the horrors. But here I am, after a year away from the Shelter...looking for more shelter work in Eugene. If you can take the pain, it's such an amazingly rewarding job, and yes, excellent fodder for writing.
