Date: October 16, evening

Who: Oishi Shuuichirou and Aoi Kentarou

Summary: Wherein Kentarou worries his tail to baldness, Oishi comforts him and offers some motherly advice, a deal is struck and happy hugs are given in copious amounts.

Kentarou paced nervously outside of Oishi-sensei's room. It wasn't normally in his nature to worry over things like this, but for the first time in a long time, Kentarou felt that his success was someone else's success as well. Ryo-chan was gifted! He was the best freshman Sacrifice the school had ever seen, right? He was so smart, and he had an overwhelming amount of energy and drive. Kentarou could feel it even just that first time they hugged, a massive surge of power that flowed through him.

The boy bounced on his heels. He barely even knew how a battle really worked! He was apparently pretty talented, but what did that mean? He had been using his powers since he was little, just to play with, and never knew they could be dangerous. He swished his tail into straightness, perked his ears up proudly and stood solidly in front of Oishi-sensei's door.

'I can't let Ryo-chan down! I'm gonne be the best freshman fighter this school has ever seen!'

He knocked, and called out.

"Oishi-sensei? It's Kentarou. Can I come in?"

His eyes reflected both his doubt, and his resolve to be the best.

Oishi was feeding his fish when the knock came, though he wasn’t to enwrapped in the task to miss the younger Fighter’s presence beforehand. He actually chuckled when the student called out, happy he’d actually decided to see him for whatever he needed rather then change him mind and walk off.

“Yes, come right on it, Aoi-kun,” Oishi called back, putting the container of food down on the table so he could greet his guest. It was late, so he assumed the visit was about something important, causing concern to wash over the teacher. “Is something wrong?” Aoi Kentarou had recently moved up to the top floor, so to see him down here again was another matter on its own. Yet Oishi was more than willing to help-- with whatever was up.

Kentarou walked into the room, ringing his tail between his hands and flicking his ears in embarassment.

"Ne... Oishi-sensei? Ummm... Well, I wanted to ask for your help. You're a fighter too, and I don't think I'm good enough. I really want to stay with Ryo-chan, so I want to keep up with him!"

He bowed low, his ears laying flat and eyes earnest.

"Will you please tutor me in Fighting? I really need it!"

Oishi opened his mouth, about to say something in the student’s defense from the remark of “I don't think I'm good enough” when Aoi bowed. It was all quite sudden, but Oishi was soon smiling gently, patting the student on the head.

“Aoi-kun, calm down-- and here, sit.” He motioned toward the couch in his room. “Of course I’ll agree to help tutor you, but let’s talk this over. You may just be over-stressing yourself.”

Aoi frowned a bit and sat down at his teacher's behest, still wringing his tail. The fur on that part was getting stressed and some of it was rubbong off.

"I don't think I am sensei... This is supposed to be fighting, it's not a game like I thought it would be... And Ryo-chan barely likes me to begin with... I just want to impress him! You'll help me, right?"

Oishi followed, taking a seat as well and sighed. This was a more serious matter than he expected. He could sense Kentarou's overwhelming doubt.

"Yes-- of course I'll help you where I can." He'd never refuse a student. "And your Sacrifice is Echizen-kun, hm? I can see what you're concerned about then - he's a strong and excellent student, and your acceptance of one another is necessary for your bond. But even though you are a pair, Aoi-kun, let me stress that you can't sway the fact that you are your own person. Everyone learns and grows at their own rates. Impressing him isn't the only way to strengthen your bond."

"But..."

The boy was uncharacteristicly hesitant to speak his mind. He was more used to people his age for one thing, and he wasn't used to talking about serious things like this in the first place. His ears were flat on his head and his back was hunched a bit.

"Well... I don't know if it's enough, though... I've tried what I usually do. I've been nice and I always pay attention to him and I give him lots of smiles and hugs! I guess... He just doesn't like me. I don't know what to do..."

"Don't be so sure of that, Aoi-kun," Oishi encouraged. "You're giving up too easily. Not everyone is so open. Maybe he has a different way of showing his acceptance of your bond."

Pausing, he gave the student a smile. "And not all pairs register the thrength of their bonds right away. You're both young, so if with nothing else, it will come with time."

Ken-chan Turned to the teacher.

"Well, if you think so. Maybe I just need to keep trying..."

The strong, confindent manner in which the teacher reassured him was making him feel better. He released his tail and it whisked through the air a bit as he placed his hands on his knees and thought about it for a bit. After a while, Kentarou smiled again.

"Yeah. I just need to stay the course! I'll bet I can get Ryo-chan to like me better if I show him that I won't give up! Oh, but, I still want you to tutor me, err, if that's okay. I mean, if you don't have enought time that's okay."

Oishi liked that, seeing the student's renewed energy. Confidence always went a long way. "Tutoring sounds fine by be. I'd love to help, and I'm sure I can fit it into my schedule."

Though Oishi wondered how much he could actually help Kentarou. He was a defense-spell specialist and would have to brush-up on a lot of techniques to help in all-around spells.

Kentarou bounced back onto his feet and bowed again.

"Yay! Thank you Oishi-sempai! I really trust you to teach me, that's why I came. No offense to the other senseis, but I'd want to play with Sen-sensei too much to get any work done, and Sanada-sensei, well... I don't want to bother him too much, he's kind of scary sometimes. You're trustworth and smart and REALLY nice!"

Back to his normal self, the boy lunges forward and wraps the man in a tight hug.

"Thank you very much, sensei!"

Chuckling, Oishi returned the hug just a bit and patted the youth on the top of his head again. "As I said, It's no problem. I'm very glad you feel comfortable to come see me. And I'm sure you'll find tutoring very beneficial."

Oishi disliked doubting too, so he pushed away his worries for now.

Kentarou's tail swung happily and he purred a bit as the teacher patted his head.

"So... When can we start Sensei?"

"As soon as you want to," Oishi answered sincerely. "I have Mondays off-- as well as most afternoons if there isn't anyone staying over for detentions. Just drop in whenever and I'll make the time." Mother Oishi. Always accommodating for his students.

Kentarou hugged Oishi once more and bounded off to the door as quick as a whip.

"Okay! Hows about next monday, then? Thanks so much Sensei! I won't forget this, ever!"

Kentarou left the room with a whisk of his tail and shut the door behind him with a click.

Ryoma was going to be so proud of him!

Still grinning softly, the teacher watched him go. To say he was a little proud to was an understatement. Sure every student strove toward excellence at Seven Moons, but to have one reach out with their extra determination and desire to excel was always a treat. Moreover, Oishi was glad he could help.

With the door closing behind Kentarou, Oishi watched it for a few more seconds, then directed his smile toward his fish, their brightly colored bodies still feeding at the surface. "Looks like I have more work to do."
