Storms.

May 16, 2020 11:16

There was a thunderstorm last night & it sounded absolutely awful. I kept checking the Accuweather page, because it seemed like there'd be a tornado watch or warning but there wasn't. There was a flash flood warning though. Which, nobody wants to see that either. Hurricane season hasn't even started yet, & we still haven't forgotten about Hurricane ( Read more... )

I love thunderstorms, but I live right next to a stream that is very prone to flooding so I constantly alternate between “yass nature is power!” and “please don’t kill me” throughout the night.

Interestingly, my sister said they had a tornado watch in Boston last night. Not exactly tornado alley there.

Yes, same! Like I love rainstorms (I might even still play in them once in a while) but I'm also wary of them now, lol.

& how odd! Hopefully no tornado appeared after all?

I know I didn't hear storms but my backyard is flooding. I hope my garden doesn't drown.

Oh no, I hope your garden is okay! I still haven't checked on mine. I'm in slow motion mode this morning -__-;

I am too. The rain makes me lazy and I"m okay with that. We tried to prep the garden last night for storms so hopefully it will be okay. I know the carrots like the rain as they thrive in moisture.

Hopefully your garden is okay too.

Yikes! I saw a few tornadoes when I lived in the US for two years as a kid. We didn't have them here in Germany then. But now with global warming, we have both hurricanes and also tornadoes that can just pluck apart our solid stone houses.

Ugh, that's terrifying :(

Hurricanes are absolutely awful but I find tornadoes to be the scariest simply because they're so sudden. With a hurricane at least there is time to prepare or to escape (if you have the means).

That's true, yes. Still, I'm sort of smug because for years I heard Germans say, "Why don't Americans just build more stable houses? Like ours? No wonder tornadoes destroy those flimsy houses."

Then we got tornadoes, and sometimes there would be something on the news about a tornado going through a place, leaving no stone on top of the other. So...so much for building "stable" houses - heh!

Oh yikes, I didn't realize people thought it was that easy.

There was a popsci article that said a home would have to be missile proof in order to be tornado proof 😳

we also had a thunderstorm last night and it sounded absolutely wonderful! the inaccuweather normally doesn't help much - they can't tell thir anything from their elbow. flash floods are more bothersome though, you are right. our little forest turned into a pond (well, it has been mostly like that after the great flood anyway) and I am wondering if the cypresses are going to grow knees already )))

yes, hurricane season on top of the plague will be interesting, I am sure )))

I must prefer the sound of rainstorms to thunderstorms I guess- especially when I'm in my workshop. It gets echoey in there! 😂

& yeeeah... finding hurricane supplies is going to be quite the quest on it's own. I suspect "Apocolypse Part (What number are we on now?)" would take place if an evacuation became necessary.

)) the sound of the thunderstorms is quite a different color than the color of sound of rainstorms, that is definitely so))

how true. every evacuation is always an incredible mess. unfortunately, that is quite characteristic of people. to create a mess wherever they go )))
