summary: Maybe hitting bottom is just what they needed to see that they have had all they needed the entire time.
warning: occasional skipping though storyline.

The subject was a difficult one for him to bring up. Josh had no idea how to even start to discuss living arrangements, let alone to offer his place and his help. The last thing he wanted was to come on too strong, to give her the wrong impression about his intentions. Right now all he wanted is to make sure she was safe and taken care of.

It wasn’t until they were in his town car, speeding away from JFK that he managed to work up the nerve to say anything. He knew Paul, his driver, was heading for his apartment by defult and the pressure of trying to find the right phrasing to his question had banished any sliver of fatigue from his body. Josh knew he had to ask before they pulled up to his place or risk upsetting Rachel further.

“Rach, sweetie?” Josh asked, gently stroking her cheek as she lay against his shoulder. “I need you to wake up for just a second.”

“Hmm?” She asked sleepily, her eyes barely able to stay open as she continued to lie on him.

“Rachel,” He said softly, summoning up his courage and praying his voice stay even. “I need to know where to tell the driver to take you.”

This seemed to revive her, as she sat up, rubbing her eyes in a childlike manner before yawning. Josh was acutely aware how much he wished he hadn’t said a word and allowed her to stay asleep, he missed the closeness they had only a few moments prior. Now she was sitting properly in her seat, and even in the dim light of the streetlights, he could see her mind working out the best possible solution.

“What time is it?” She asked him, fumbling in the dark for her bag and her cellphone.

Josh pressed a key on his phone, the sudden brightness of the illuminated screen stinging his eyes as he read the time. “It’s almost two in the morning.” He said, his voice still quiet.

He could see her biting her lip before her racing thoughts were vocalized. “I can’t go to Blaine and Kurt’s.” She said, and Josh could almost see the list she was running through in her head.

“I don’t even want to go into that building if I don’t have to.” She said, worry clear in her voice. “Can you just have Paul drop me off at the Palace. I will just have Daddy meet me there tomorrow with Maddy.”

Josh smiled to himself at Rachel’s kind nature. She had only met Paul on a handful of occasions, but she still remembered his name, even as she in a panic. “Rachel,” He said, summoning up more courage than he knew he had. “Why don’t you just say with me? You can get everything sorted, and I have plenty of room.”

He paused, smiling. “And you know how Galina adores Maddy. She would love if you both came and stayed with us.”

Josh could see Rachel thinking it over. He didn’t want her to feel pressured so he turned his gaze out the window, almost holding his breath in anticipation of her answer.

“Okay.” Rachel said, her voice sounding relaxed for the first time in what felt like days.
