I'd left Mulder with Agent Cooper. I felt a little bad about it, but they seemed to have a few things in common, so they'd find something to do, and as ridiculous as it sounds, I didn't need Mulder underfoot when I went and did what I had to do. Earlier, his high emotions had complicated things, and as much as it's not like him to muck up a case ( Read more... )

I buried my head deeper into the lumpy pillow. What the heck is that noise anyway? I tried to tune it out. Once again, the shrill buzzing noise returned. With a sigh, I sat up and tossed the blankets off. That was when I realized where I was. Not in my own comfy bed, that's for sure! Think I would have preferred the motel over sleeping on a couch.

Turns out the annoying sound was the doorbell. "Hello, could someone answer that?" No answer. I sighed again before rising from the couch and reluctantly approached the door. My hair was a mess no doubt and sweatpants and a tee-shirt; what a lousy fashion statement. I opened the door a crack and stared questionably at the woman dressed in what could pass for business attire. "Whatever you're selling... not interested!" I started to close the door with a dismissive glare, hoping to find a pot of coffee brewing in the kitchen.

She begins to close the door, and, frustrated, I overreact. I reach forward and wedge my fingers inbettween the door and it's frame before she closes it. On afterthought, my foot would have been a better choice. I've caught her attention, and she opens the door, rather than closing it on my fingers, thankgod. I take a breath, and gather my patience.

"I'm not selling anything, miss, I'm Agent Scully with the FBI." She doesn't react immedeatley, so I soften my tone, raising my eyebrows slightly. "I'm here to see Samantha."

I had to pause and wonder just how many girls could be living in this house. I'd observed only three bedrooms upstairs.

Obviously the woman meant business, risking damage to her nails with the hand in the door maneuver. I was curious and yet still wary. As long as she doesn't suddenly morph into a pile of bugs...

Arms crossed, I stared at her. "Samantha? Ummm...." I had to think for a moment, the situation in Sunnydale still all shades of confusion. Oh yeah, Willow had mentioned the name Sam after I'd told her about my vision. Why would an FBI agent be seeking an emotionally unstable vampire slayer?

"Was she expecting you?" I paused, not sure exactly how to approach this new development. I offered a smile, although her presence was making me nervous. "She's not home. Is there something I can help you with?"

I sigh softly, imperceptible enough for her to overlook it. These girls are giving us the run around, in no slight way. I pause and look around, then look at her. "Can I come in?"

"e-expecting me? she's-" I can't even form the words, because saying 'she's a lunatic' is just too obvious. "No. She's not expecting...is there someone else I can talk to?"

"She's not home?? you mean she's not here anymore? where is she??" I can't even believe the way everyone is acting, it's like they've all lost thier minds. And now the mentally unstable teenage girl is- what? on an outing??

"Cordelia." I replied when Agent Scully asked my name. Then she started to go on about a criminal investigation and Samantha's mental status. "Well... you're not wrong to be concerned." I couldn't offer much more, since the situation was still a big confusing mess in my mind. Not like the FBI would believe in visions and 'Powers that Be' and all that stuff, either.

As I stared at the woman blankly, Dawn approached the house. "Oh, hey Dawn." I stepped aside allowing her access and motioning again for Agent Scully to enter. "I'm not sure how we can help you, but you're welcome to come in, unless Dawn minds." Maybe they could stall her or find out more about this case or... "Coffee, Agent Scully?"

If I want a chance to talk with Samantha, I'm going to have to win over these young women. Maybe they can even assist in uncovering what exactly caused this mental break. The youngest of the group pushes past me in a palpable flurry of hormones and I accept the invitation to come inside, nodding politely when Cordelia offers coffee.

I have a feeling Dawn is my easiest route to the truth of things, so I'm eager to speak with her on her own. If there's something bad happening with her sister and the other girls, there's the possibility that she'll confide in me.

"Hey, Cordy," I reply as I move past them into the house. I kind of want to run up to my room and slam the door and stay there for the rest of the night, but that would mean leaving Cordelia with this woman. Cordy already offered her our coffee. Maybe they'll dismantle the couch next.

I walk into the living room and toss my backpack on the couch, sitting down next to it. It's my house, I should be able to do whatever I want in it. I'm not gonna be rude and not let people come in, but I'm not gonna hide, either. I take some books out of my backpack and spread them out on the table so it'll look like I'm doing homework. Actually, I'm listening to what they're saying. They can try to keep me out of like, everything, but I'm not gonna let them.
