Love in the Asylum

Narrator's POV

Three weeks after Jasper entered rehab, Marcus Brandon came to visit his daughter. He was wearing a suit almost identical to the one he wore the last time he visited. Nothing about him changed, his hair was still a dark brown, his eyes were still green and he was just as stubborn as ever. He made his way over to his daughter who was sitting under the willow tree with her male companion.

No words are being spoken but a conversation was still taking place. Marcus felt as though he was eavesdropping on something private as he watched the two stare into each other's eyes, yet he interrupted them anyways.

He put his hand on Jasper's shoulder and stared coldly at him when the blonde looked up..

Jasper POV

"I'm going to go," I whispered to Alice before getting up, brushing off my seat and gesturing for her father to sit. He gave me a strange look as a waved good bye and went to go sit by the river where I would be able to hear every word they were saying.

"Is he a schizophrenic or a sociopath?" he asked.

Alice turned to me and I gave her a quick wink. She turned back to her father. "Neither. He's not crazy."

"Junkie," Marcus scoffed. "You shouldn't socialize with these people."

"Why not? I am one of these people."

"You're not crazy, you just need a rest."

"A rest form what? What I need is my son."

Marcus ignored Alice's reques.t "I can't talk to you when you're like this."

"Like what? When I'm demanding or when I want to make my own decisions."

"Alice. Please drop it," he told her in a rather demanding voice.

Alice shook her head looking like a spoiled child. "No. I had enough. I'm not going to drop it. I'm getting out in a few weeks and when I do I'm getting my son back."

"You don't even know how to take care of a baby. Joshua is doing fine, you don't need to worry about him"

"I'm his mother," Alice argued, "I'm supposed to worry about him."

Alice put her head down and began to softly cry.

Marcus Brandon awkwardly patted Alice on the back.

"Stop crying," he demanded. When she didn't do as he said he got up. "Just worry about getting out of here," he told her and left.

The second her father left I made my way to Alice's side. I sat down in my chair and grabbed her hand. "You okay?"

She nodded. "I will be."

We sat holding hands for a few peaceful minutes before she spoke again.

"His name is Joshua," she whispered.

"So I heard, that's a nice name."

Alice let out a harsh laugh. "It's horrible. I wanted to name him Jaylen"

"That's a better name."

"I'm going to change it when I get him back."

"Why are you so determined to get him?" I asked her although I knew it would only make her angry. "You're eighteen are you really want to be a mother?"

Alice quickly let go of my hand . "I don't give a damn how old I am. he's my son and I want him"

"Have you ever thought about what's best for him? Would his life as happy with a single teenage parent who just got out of the asylum or is he just fine where he is now?"

Alice glared at me. "Just go away Jasper."

I nodded and did just that.
