Teen Wolf Question About Stiles and His Secrets

Mar 23, 2013 09:26

So here's my question - When and why would Stiles ever, ever, ever tell Sheriff Stalinski about Derek?

I asked Amalthia about this and her answer is inevitably a very sweet, "I don't know! I just like it when he does!" And then she tells me to shut my piehole and go write something for her. So I will, but first I need to talk to someone about it!

Still need to finish reading the above, but I stopped on the driving bit. My 2cents: Its canon that Stiles is 16. He has to be since he's driving and they live in Ca. At 15 you can drive with a permit, but only with an adult in the car with you. Since Dad is the sheriff logic dictates he's 16. So in S2 Stiles could still be 16 or have just turned 17. K, back to finish reading the above ;)

Okay I can see taking a darker road on the Sheriff's reaction, but personally its not a direction I'd go as a writer. For me the legality in rl its more of a blue law. One that can and would be enforced but under certain conditions (where the under-aged person is consenting). I think its more enforced now because of a lot because of visible cases of student/teacher relationships - and when parents don't know the person and feel their child is in danger, is trying to control them stop them from seeing someone ( ... )

So it's a grey and moving line for a blue law. Agreed.

Stiles would lie to his Dad because Derek's a werewolf, not because of his age...Stiles is 16 and all hormones and so age, smage....good point.

I guess I'd been reading a few stories where the Dad seems to have no reaction at all, like, whatever, go ahead. And I can't see it being so casual. There was a story called Say Something where the Sheriff finds out and then absorbs Derek in his pack, so to speak, and I loved that. Even if he's nervous about Derek, he can keep Derek close and make sure things are okay ( ... )

I could see Stiles telling his dad about Derek if Derek were in grave danger and the sheriff was the only person who could help.

Another scenario would be if Stiles thought his father was sickly worried about his son's happiness, for whatever reason. Or if Stiles needed to share so as not to feel alienated from his father, or if he didn't want to lie to his dad. Since they're the only family they have, there could be several scenarios in which sharing a personal truth would be important to a story.

Okay, yes, there could be many scenarios and reasons...just the stories I've been reading have been "oh, hey dad, we're sleeping together, wheeee!" and that was the end of it. Which made me start thinking, how would I do it? I think it would be a serious issue, given who Derek is in the town and what Stiles has said about him...For the purposes of a story, no, I would not have the Sheriff shoot Derek, but he might want to, for a good five minutes.

And if Derek were in grave danger? Stiles would do anything. : D

"I think it would be a serious issue"

Me, too. That could be the basis for many good stories!

You are making some pretty good points. I am currently writing a Sterek Story, and Stiles' dad doesn't find out about them at all, until he finds them in a rather compromising position in Stiles' bed when he gets home early from work. And Stiles still tries to lie.

And still Stiles tries to lie! I think he wants to protect his dad and thinks this is the best way to do it. Considering Derek's a werewolf, yes, I might agree with him on this one. : D

I think that if the Sheriff does discover them in bed? He's going to have quite a conundrum on his hands.

Good luck with your story!
