Narsissi

Your feet padded along the sidewalk as you made your way down the road, not really caring where you were headed. It was mid-afternoon and decided to go for a walk, nothing to do for the time being and no one to talk to was back at the bus.

Okay, so that was a lie. Pete was back there and you definitely could have talked to him. No. That was a lie too. Pete wasn't in the mood to talk. He'd gotten like that over the past few days and as much as you love him, it's just hard to stand it when he gets like that. When he gets to the point where all you want to do is make him smile but he just won't allow himself to do it. How an you be expected to keep up a happy façade when your boyfriend is the epitome of depression?

And just as your thoughts were clouded over, a bright sunshine filled your mind. You blinked and looked a your surroundings, having too immersed in your previous thoughts to even comprehend the sidewalk you were on. That's when you saw that bright sunshine again out of the corner of your eye and you looked down to the ground. There amidst the green lawn were several few brilliantly yellow daffodils. You smiled to yourself, the idea hitting you like a freight train and you knelt down to pick one of the lovely flowers.

Immediately you head back for the bus, wherever the hell it is. You strain your memory to remember any landmark that may allow you to find the club the tour bus was parked at, anything that might lead you back so that you could carry out with your plan. The delicate flower was held against your chest, shielding it from any of the impending dangers of the outside world.

At last you saw the Subway restaurant on the corner of the street and you that residing on the opposite corner would be the club you were to play that night. You smiled and made your way around he block and found the bus, climbing on with a bit of an extra bounce is your step as you knew this would just have to brighten him up.

"Pete?" You called out softly, glancing around the front of the bus and not spotting him. A small call from the back indicated that he was there and you made your way to the back lounge to find him curled on the corner of the sofa watching the muted television screen. "Pete..." You cooed softly as you sat down next to him, leaning into his body and looping your arm over his shoulders. "What's wrong?"

He sighed, frustrated. You knew he didn't like talking about anything but that's never stopped you from asking before. And since this relationship of sorts of yours developed, it's never stopped him from only talking to you about it. One of those small issues of trust the two of you have worked out with one another.

"God only knows," he shook his head as he murmured. And there it was, the proof that no matter what you tried, nothing would quite satisfy whatever was the problem at this time. If he doesn't know, there's no help. All you can do is try.

"Found something I thought you'd like while I was out," you said and warmly rubbed his shoulder. You leaned over and softly kissed his temple and although you didn't see it, the softest of smiles graced his lips when you did.

"Did you, really?" He asked, intrigued, and looked at you. With a nod you picked up the bright flower for him to see and felt yourself warm up inside as you saw the smile spread on his face. "What's this?"

You laughed and rolled your eyes. "Well, I hope it's your favorite flower..."

He nodded, the smile not leaving his face. "It is. Thank you, Patrick."

"You're welcome, Peter." You nodded and with that, he leaned over to kiss your cheek and it was there that the two of you sat for the next long while, holding one another, content and smiling.
