[ Oh, miracle of miracles! That wretched snow is now out of sight. Izaya, being who he is, doesn't enjoy being holed up for so long without actually seeing people, so he takes this as an opportunity to prance out of the dilapidated apartment building. After trying to not trip over the mass amounts of rubble, he takes notice of the rainbow of fruits ( Read more... )

Hm, you're hesitant about trying them because you think they may be dangerous, right...? It's probably fine...

... but if you're really concerned, I'd be happy to be your guinea pig, just to be on the safe side?

[ Ooh, guinea pigs. Izaya loves those. ]

If you'd like. Don't hold me liable for anything that happens, though.

[ Emil is one of those 'too nice with no self preservation' types; perfect guinea pig indeed!]

Of course not, it was my idea.

Just... promise you'll be careful, alright? You can't stay too long after we figure out if the fruit is safe or not.

Oh? [ You've intrigued him some. ] I'll be careful, sure, but why am I not allowed a prolonged stay?

Why are you so damn paranoid? Fruit comes from trees, which grow outside. So it's normal, there's nothing weird about it!

[You really are the dumbest person in the world right now to him]

Let me look at one of 'em. I'll tell you if there's something off about 'em. But I really just think you're being dumb.

[He figures he's some kind of wilderness expert, now]

But these don't look like normal fruit, just so you know. I don't think there are many trees that bear black fruit...

[ He casts a sideways glance towards the fruit, slightly wary. ]

If you'd like.

Well, there are more than one. [ He does a pan of the camera to show all the trees and fruit.] What do you think?

The fruits? Uh... well, I don't think just eatin' it's real safe.

My thoughts exactly. The animals around here seem to be fine, but it may be in fact poisonous to humans. I don't want to risk anything.

I've heard about berries that birds could eat, but aren't good for people.

Yeah, it's probably safer not to eat 'em yet.

Yet? Do you think there will be a time when we can eat them?

「 He's been wandering about the place for long enough that he's less inclined to be wary of the people here. But the fruits? Them fruits be fishy things. It seems rude to interrupt someone, even when they're talking to themselves, but… 」 I don't think that would be a good idea…

[ The interruption was all right by him, since it was a semi-helpful one. ]

What wouldn't be a good idea? Asking others for advice, or taking a bite for myself?

Taking a bit for yourself. There doesn't seem to be any doctors around…

[ Tch. If only Shinra had been dragged here with him. ]

I honestly wasn't planning to do so, but I'm rather famished since arriving here. So, unless the animals are free to become fodder and there's a kitchen nearby, I'll have to eat one of these things.

[ Izaya turns away from the trees to look at the teen. ]

Do you have any ideas?
